Difference between AC panels

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

I've noticed that the part numbers for UK-spec and J-spec AC panels are different:

55405-14120 (JP)

55405-14130 (UK)

I looked at some pictures online but I can't see the difference, does anyone know what it is? Can they be used interchangeably?

Thanks!

You are correct, there is a difference between the j-spec and UK AC dash panel, as I found out years ago when I tried to fit a j-spec panel into my UK spec.

The lip around the headunit is deeper (thicker) on the UK spec, so a jspec panel left a gap all around the headunit, as the UK headunit cage must sit further back. We couldn't figure out why it wouldn't fit correctly unit we noticed the different part numbers stamped on the back of each panel were different. I then sourced a UK panel and no more gap around the headunit.

I hope that helps.

Very interesting, thanks a lot. Quite remarkable how many unique parts they made for the UK/Euro spec. They were probably hoping for more sales. 🙂

I was able to find a picture of each where you can see the difference, I've attached them for future reference.

Never knew that, how strange. I wonder why that is?
