trybedoor
Hi all, Wondering if anyone could possibly help me out. Looking at purchasing an e46 325 bmw convertible for the Mrs. Ones popped up but the guy has said that the auto box is temperamental in reverse it will move back 4 to 5 foot and then have to select neutral and put in reverse again to do the same. All forward gears are fine apparently. Am I looking at a knackered box, just wondered if anyone knew a bit these boxes. Any help would be appreciated before I maybe take the plunge. Swampy442
Early cars have a 4 speed box, later cars have a 5 speed so you need to identify that first. They are ZF boxes, generally very robust. I had a 530i with the 5 speed box, over 200k miles and it was fine. Get the codes read, you may have a solenoid issue but an oil change and filter would be my first stop. Dnk
I'd call an autobox specialist and ask them. I have used Transmission Technology for years, Ken the owner is very helpful and could well tell you what's up with it 01564 779407
