I'm afraid it's bad news guys, the heating kicked-in yesterday morning after the temps plummeted and the outside turned to sheer ice (very cold) so it looks as if our gas run is over.

We managed a total of 96-days without incurring a single full revolution to our gas meter and then yesterday it spun around four times!

We've not used anything today so our count is back to 1.

It was good while it lasted.

Cheers all,

Andrew

Last week the heating went on for 20 mins. You have to be careful of mould as the temp has been down to 12 degrees in the house.

Popped the heating on for 4 hours and it averaged out at around £1 per hour on the Smart meter

Wow, that is terrible timing. Been -6 at night where I am.  I suspect it's the same for most, if not worse, elsewhere in UK.

Hope this got sorted yesterday?

-9c here now 20 miles south of B'ham

My BM's froze solid so waiting on the sun to de frost it so I can open the drivers door

I hear you Dunk, we've got a BMW M440i and the A90 Supra, both have frameless doors.  Defrosting the cars in the morning has become a bit of a chore!

I've had to park mine backwards so when the sun comes up it de frosts the drivers door

I turned the electric smart meter off.

Id rather not look at it.

Heating wise im seeing the fruits of spending a good few weeks in the summer cutting logs.

The only rad i have fired this winter is my sons room. That said his room is always cold, i insulated everything the only thing i didnt was under the floor. The thought of ripping up the laminate and floor boards sucks.

The missus had a Mini Cabriolet until 2-years ago and it was a total PITA during the winter period.

I made it my job to de-ice it but she went out, but at -10C it would freeze up and the mechanism jam up into the roof.

We'll never have a drop-down window configuration again unless we move to somewhere hot.

A quick update on our gas usage:

Between 18-Nov and 20-Dec we've used 68 turns of the gas meter so that equates to about £78.20, excluding the rip-off standing charge.

We've still got the heating set at 11C which can be a bit of a struggle but we're muddling on through.

That said, we've found that an outside temp of -4 costs us about £5 to stay cold (LOL) while the recent increase in temps has reduced our daily gas usage back to £0.90 per 24hrs.

Some mornings we wake up and think the boiler has failed and then realise that it's just us being tight.

Gas and heating bills look to increase next year with the global gas demands increasing - Not good!
