VIL
Chaps can you help. For a few weeks now I have been getting a strange `howl` noise as I start to build up boost. I attributed this to a split pipe and put it into the garage. Nothing found at the garage and the `howl` has not gone away! I have crawled all over the car while a mate has driven it and although its almost impossible to determine where its coming from it sounds like it could be coming from something in the drive train? Auto box towards the diff? Also I have noticed (only this morning) that if its in drive and crawling along on tickover there is like a metallic `tinkling` sound coming from somewhere? Are these two related, does anyone know what this might be. Obviously something is on its way out and I want to solve it before I end up stuck on the hard shoulder somewhere! VIL
No not death whine. That was my first thought but would be highly unusual on ceramic turbos. It sounds mechanical?

VIL
Thats my next step. I think it will pick up the `Howl` but the metallic plinking sound is only just audible.
Pete
Tinkling could be the charcoal canister? (Plastic black cylindrical box top right of the engine bay)
VIL
The `tinkling` noise happens when the box is in drive/reverse and you are crawling along with no accelerator. ie at 1mph. The two noises may be unrelated but I am suspicious that something is `Howling` as its close to death and the `metallic` sound it a result of what ever it is!
