tbourner
Anyone have a list of learner legal 4-stroke 125cc bikes? Preferably race reps. Honda CBR125 is the only one I can find. I like the look of the Sachs XTC 125 but I think it's 15bhp which AFAIK is too much for CBT owners?
terribleturner
There's an Aprilla i think, can't remember the make though. Just go big mate, you know you want too Saying that i've never been on anything smaller than a
RobSheffield
Aprilia RS125?
tbourner
Thought the Aprillia was a 2-stroke? I'm sure I'll be on a ZX12R or something within a few years, but unfortunately they won't let me do my CBT on one of them!!!
GeordieSteve
Yeah the little Aprillas are quick for 125's
RobSheffield
sorry, didnt see the bit about 4 strokes iirc, no learner legal race reps could be a 4 stroke, as 125cc is too gutless.....hence the CG125 and the like - is the CBR125 a 4 stroke? thought it was 2? race reps dont get to being 4 stroke til 400cc.....hows about a cbr400 and limit it to the requirements? BigRoy
I wouldnt do a CBT on a 125 sports the turning circle is crap. Be better off with a CG125 or similar, your only going to do your test on it and buy bigger. Sports 125 are so over priced and your lose alot more on resale, even 2nd had onwards. Or buy a ZX12 now and re sleeve it to a 125 LOL
tbourner
Don't think limited high power bikes are learner legal anyway are they? I'm getting a bike for low cost work travel, the Supe is gonna be the weekend fun machine, so not looking for huge power anyway - I just don't want a whiney 2-stroke piece of crap!! jim_supra
a good bike would be a honda varadero XL125V. It has a 4 stroke v-twin engine (good for a whopping 15hp!) which sounds very nice, nothing like the sound you get from the aprillia. my brother has had both of these bikes, and says that aprillia was very difficult to learn to ride on, where-as the varadero was very easy to ride, though not as fast. EDIT: found a write up here:http://home.clara.net/survivalskills/varadero_125.htm
tbourner
Yeah 125 4-strokes are quite a bit slower than 2s apparently, I'm just really not keen on 2-strokes because I don't want to sound like a moped rider!!
SkyJawa
My sis has a CBR125 she bought as a stop gap between her CBT and direct access. I've riden it and its a cracking bike Still beats most things off the lights, looks great and handles excellently, really chuckable Sus is a bit soft but otherwise if I was getting a 125 it would be one of them! Uk's second biggest selling bike too Oh - its for sale BTW Looks like this: http://www.franks-fahrschule.de/pictures/schulungsfahrzeuge/cbr125.jpg But the turning circle is a bit pants, you can still U-turn it in most roads though
