Still having issues with my power steering fluid leaking out the cap. So I’m thinking now that the reservoir it self may be damaged. Looking to see if anyone has one spare or if they have upgraded and have a old one sitting about. Cheers

Have you tried cleaning the mesh filter in the bottom? If the return fluid is coming into the reservoir but not been pumped out fast enough, it'll come out the top.

I think this is the problem mate! But I have had the reservoir off and gave it a clean but not sure if I may have damaged it🤦🏻‍♂️ If so would that then start returning like you said through the cap? Also I had to bypass my cooler as it burst a while ago(it was all working for a few months fine), I used fuel hose from Halfords and have now just read that those hoses sometimes break down as they can’t handle the ATF fluid which would block the system up hence it coming back through the cap??

Is it overfilled? Or are you getting it too hot and it's boiling out?

Not sure if it’s over filled, just got the fluid to about a 3rd of the reservoir. But there is still air bubbles coming up. Think I’m gonna have to replace the hose with a ATF rated hose as I’ve used to bypass the cooler as it was a fuel hose and I think that may have collapsed internally and is blocking the system. After that I will drain all the atf out and refill. If that doesn’t sort it I will change the reservoir bottle as I may have damaged it cleaning it out.

Basically, once you have it off the car, if you hold it up to light, you should be able to see light shining through the mesh strainer at bottom with hoses off.

If not, it just needs a good swirling out with petrol or brake cleaner to dissolve the crud. You could use something gentle with long handle to scrape crud off to loosen it.  I have a spare reservoir here but some idiot has completely ripped out the mesh strainer. Your's if you want it for a tenner.

The hose any natural rubber hose resistant to Dexron3 should be fine. Small one I think is 3/8" and other bigger one maybe 5/8"

So a little update- after doing a full flush and changing my oil cooler bypass hose from a fuel hose to a one recommended for ATF fluid. I then went onto jack the car up and turn the steering left to right with the cap off. The fluid then started bubbling like water in a hot pan. Spitting everywhere. The car had been running for about 20 mins so up to temperature! Could it be that because I’ve bypassed my oil cooler pipe that this is the cause? Next step to fit a 10 row oil cooler?!  I took it for a drive and there was no noise from the pump and steering was all ok if not better. But when I got back that’s when I took the lid of and it was bubbling like mad Spilling everywhere.!

What a headache

That wouldn't overheat in that time with that little work. There's some else a miss here. You sure it was hot? And not just normal temp but full of air bubbles?

But did you check the mesh strainer is not clogged?

it was warm but bubbling like water in a hot pan, but I’m talking spitting out of the res about 8 inches in the air?

So I took the res off before doing the flush and put a torch In where the bottom hose goes and I could only see light if I looked really hard like it was a tiny dot looking into the top where the cap goes. I could see the mesh but not very well. ?

That's not the power steering fluid getting too hot, that sounds to me like there's air in the system and the pump is cavitating?!? But it would be very noisy!?! I suggest you take it to someone who can investigate the whole steering system.

🤦🏻‍♂️ Turned out it was too much oil in. Just a question when the car is running idle in a normal situation does the fluid just sit still when you take the cap off

Check with the car off, there should be a hot and cold level on the dipstick.
