Noz
Got play in my diff. It's banging pretty aggressively suddenly. Limped home and this is what I've found. Will a rebuild and shim be reliable? A01B. VID-20210814-WA0014.mp4
mwilkinson
Oh no...... That doesn't look good at all Might be worth draining the oil and seeing what comes out with it. Frank Bullitt
Time for an OS Giken 1.5 way. Hope the ring and pinion are still okay. Was it a hard launch?

No mate. Have never launched it or smashed the gears. Always been fearful the R154 would die. Didnt expect the diff to get worn. Think I'd rather go 8.8. Time to save for a T56. So I can reliably launch it hard nd drag race. Just wondering if I shim it. Itll keep me on the road. Scooter
Some play is normal but I'm not experienced enough to know how yours ranks........CW in the link says about half a turn.....yours is less, presumably rotating to a different part of the gears would give a varying of the slack if part of your gears are damaged? Noisy as fark dude, if your ring & pinion are okay get a Giken (which is rebuildable) fit them to this and keep the ratio you currently have. Don’t go for a 2 way either, 1.5 way is all you need for a road car. Give CW a shout, suspension & geometry is his bread and butter.

Mike2JZ
Probably worth taking the diff apart and checking where the play is coming from. If the teeth are worn between crown wheel and pinion then I'd probably look at swapping to another diff that isnt so worn. If the play is in the LSD unit itself then swap to an OS giken and off you go. A02B diff is "correct" ratio for R154 from factory at least. I wore the LSD unit down a lot in my A01B after being single for a few years and beating the shit out of it. Still worked, just had a lot of play so maybe you have done something similar.

I believe their LSD can have up to 28 friction plates with customisable torque settings and lock timing. 6 hours ago, Noz said: 1500 from various Google search. You could spend more if you wanted to make sure it’s as brand spankers as possible, I’d be replacing the doughnut and all fixings too. SRD make a lovely billet cover for the small case diff based on the large case design if you really wanted to go mad.
