trinitom
There is this guy on Facebook selling 3d printed interior trim parts. Did anyone had anything from him?
mwilkinson
I'm afraid I can't assist with specific knowledge of this seller. However, one of the main issues with 3D printed parts was that the plastics used were very soft and susceptible to deformation from heat and therefore sunlight. I don't know if this has changed, but that would be one of my concerns. Maybe someone on here with some experience of 3D printing can comment? Ric
Only PLA has these issues. I expect these are printed with ABS or some other tough material PETG perhaps.
trinitom
Don't know the quality, but he has an extensive list of parts so i guess it must be the proper plastic.
Swampy442
Only way to find out is to buy one I guess
Ric
It's something the guy should openly say it shouldn't be a secret if you ask.
mwilkinson
If the plastics can hold up to real world use it seems like a winner to me. I assume these would need sanding and painting? Do they only sell via Facebook? Can you post a link to them?
trinitom
Yes i think they require some sanding. If its ok, i can post his name or link?
mwilkinson
I shouldn't think that's an issue. So long as you're not trying to sell his parts.
trinitom
I'm not trying to sell anything. Im going to post the link, if its not fine then someone delete it. https://m.facebook.com/groups/161159357411368/permalink/1684511098409512/
Burna
I think you'll find that the dash panel is just fiberglass, so will still need some work, as per his ebay description: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124248053333?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D09750d112da54e12852ca161f4cf784b%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D124248053333%26itm%3D124248053333%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Ad1458ee2-f4fa-11eb-ae57-0ec516861fdc|parentrq%3A1032bb8917b0a49d85f17e29ffef2e32|iid%3A1 "For sale: Custom made Supra JZA80 LHD HVAC panel. He has an Instagram page with a lot of pictures, and to me they look like plastic for sure. Anyway that fiberglass one looks quite well made. trinitom
Anyway if there is any members here with the skills and 3D machine to do it, i think its a good opportunity to make some £ and help the community. I would most probably buy some.
Frank Bullitt
I assume you know how much a 3D printed panel will cost? For the smallest dash panel I wouldn’t mind betting you are looking at £500+. @Burna What would you charge?

I have no idea how much it cost to replica a 3D part. if you click on the facebook link, you can see the prices and they actually look reasonable. I’m not on FB but those photos couldn’t be lower res if he tried. Unless he can provide high res images and will tell you exactly what it’s made from I wouldn’t touch them. I know I’m a fussy tw@t but they look shyte.

mwilkinson
We clearly can't comment on their quality, but the number and type of available parts is quite impressive.
Dnk
I'd want to know what material is being used or i'd go elsewhere. Same as sellers calling parts billet this and billet that, means nothing unless you know the grade/spec of the material
Ric
Im sure somebody who has taken all this time to design the parts, finesse and print them is not using PLA what deforms well before the cabin temp inside a supra in the sun.

I'd rather know than assume If I were making these i'd be making a point about how good they are what material used and have been tested to make sure they don't warp etc. Didn't one of the companies in the USA attempt to make carbon fibre versions and that went tits up ?? I'm over cautious now having paid the price too many times and would rather go without than waste cash. Ric
I contacted this guy to ask seeing that people seem to think they'd be printed with toothpaste. He uses ABS & ABS+ Edited August 5, 2021 by Ric (see edit history)

Firstly, we made these parts for our LHD converted cars and then tried to sell, oh boy, how many people is converting these cars from RHD to LHD. Due to some scammers I do not accept cancelations and returns for these parts, because fees and postage is high and already lost some parts and money from my pocket. Everyone who want to save some bucks, can ask me on Instagram or PM everything they want! One very important thing about 3D printed parts - they last one or two times in best case, maybe you will receive broken already and no one will refund you, got already hard experience. Also 3D printed parts have ugly texture, you no need for explanations how it looks in dash. Fiberglass is some different kind of material, impossible to brake if used with sense, but there is some drawbacks and need some extra work to fit it with all the extra parts (fitting, tabs, vents etc.). P.S. Some time working on LHD HVAC dials and button module. All the 3D and electronic blueprints done, just left how to bring it to life - body print, PCB print, buttons and dials.
