Noz
Can I re use cam cover seals if I take the covers off? Thinking about a quick paint job for them. Edited July 13, 2021 by Noz (see edit history)
m12aak
The cam seals aren't affected when the covers come off as there is a bearing cap holding them in on either side, so you should have no issues. I'd probably replace the cover gaskets while your there though (if they haven't been done recently).
Noz
I meant cam cover seals lol my bad. Obviously removing cover isn't going to disturb the cam seal itself, didn't word that great. Maybe found some local ones, fingers crossed!
mc92
Should be OK as long as they're not old and hard. I replaced mine in 2017 or so and they still seal fine even though I took them off again a couple of times since then.
MattP
For £15 a pair from Toyota if you havnt done them it's best to replace. The old hard ones also cause the ends etc to crack on refitting. New ones are more supple and seal off nicely. Its something pitiful like 5>7ftlbs or NMs I can't remember off the top of my head.

Noz
Parts getting rarer that's for sure. Hopefully companies keep making seals. Non service items are definitely drying up.

Not many have a low end torque wrench so its finger tight (2Nm) and a 1/4 turn. Best to torque again after a run.
