I have lots of updates on the way I assumed it will be a grand or so but its better than front mounting...

I saw the ducting thread years ago that's why I thought a front mount would be OK but I don't want to move AC lines and ps lines then much about with air flow around the radiator awww and then the underbody panels don't fit.

No chance il stick to SMIC

I'm confused...I thought front mount was better for airflow, but also more importantly, it looks cool (I'm from the Max Power generation)

I have a CW side mount in the shed...I knew it was desired, but not that desired. Does it really flow that much better than a front mount?? 😯

Depends what front mount we are talking about, it is arguably better for BPU sort of power due to it being properly ducted unlike most front mounts.

There's a lad running 618bhp through a CW smic, definitely good enough for a small single 👍

They are not mate, I just recently tried, and hence why I then spent good money on a proper ETS FMIC. Yes you can run a single on it, but it all depends on how you drive the car. If you are a just a 'show and no go' driver, then yes, it will cope with one hard pull now and again, but I tried it and it no where near coped, one pull and it was heat soaked and you were done, and I like to drive it hard with many back to back to back full hard pulls.

Brand new SMIC or the same one from your BPU days?

Mine was my original one, but it wouldn't matter if it was new mate, it just doesn't have the volume to cope with cooling a single that's been driven hard. I'm sure if you ask Mike he will tell you the same.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing the CW SMIC in anyway, and if you are BPU it's the perfect way to go! I loved mine! And really really wanted it to handle my single turbo as I wanted to keep all my active spoiler setup, but it just wasn't the case in the end 😞

I get that, just in the interests of fairness and science it would have been nice to test a new CW SMIC and a new FMIC back to back. Out of interest how old was yours?

Did Wez ever having a problem tracking his single turbo with the CW SMIC? That is so long ago now I can’t remember 🤣

Did you try a WI set up to lower IAT’s?

Mine was very old, over ten years old, but that wasn't the problem. I even contemplated buying a new one! But there just isn't a point. It doesn't need any science behind it, it's just basically down to sheer volume, the CW SMIC is a great bit of engineering, but it's just too small to cope with a single turbo that's driven hard, it really is as simple as that.

I also know that Bignum had a CW SMIC on his, and now has a cheap chinese FMIC, but he doesn't properly monitor his AIT's as he's using the stock sensor, which takes an ages to react and measure, it's just not accurate enough. I have a new Link air temp sensor which reacts and measures instantly, and that's where the problem came on mine when Mike mapped it, the AIT's were shooting through the roof on just one pull!

And adding things like water injection to bring down AIT's is just a bodge to get around the problem mate. To solve the problem I fitted a top quality (in my opinion the best you can get) ETS FMIC, and I have no problem at all with AIT's now, the thing is amazing. The intake temps actually drop once you come on boost and start kicking its head in 😄 All thanks to Mikes advice and experience 👍

I just wanted to fit my Facelift markers so I spent a £1000 on an intercooler.

1st word problems.

You forget this is the Supra forum, where everyone looks for the cheapest place to buy a second hand oil filter, but their NA auto is worth 25 grand....
