jongilly
Hi alll, my UK spec needs a rebuild, the saga continues. Compression is down to 90pisi on number 4, all others are around 150psi. So it seems cheaper to buy a short block than rebuild the old one, as it will need over size pistons after a rebore, and just want to keep it totally standard, not after extra bhp with this one Looking for a good deal on a short block new or old stock Any advice much appreciated Cheers Gilly Edited June 15, 2021 by jongilly (see edit history)
Swampy442
Rebuild your original engine. Originality is the key, buying second hand may give you as many issues, maybe more, than you already have. Nobody will care its rebuilt, only who/how its been built. You cant factor in cheapness into Supra's any more, not when you'll want to sell it for top dollar
jongilly
Not wanting to buy anything second hand, amayama.com list a short block brand new for 4k plus shipping and then vat import duties. I'm asking if there is a short block new in the UK or Europe. Don't really think all this matching numbers stuff is a real thing on uk supras
Noz
I'd rebuild. May not need to over size pistons. Doubt you'd know for sure until its apart. I'd not trust a block sitting around. No idea if it's been stored correctly.
Burna
Whifbitz sell brand new OEM Toyota short blocks, only £3316 if exchanging with your old block. Which I think is a very good price!

Noz
Even future motors do a budget stroker build. Its worth speaking to your desired builder and getting a price. Still think easiest option is to rebuild yours. Think your assuming cylinder walls are toast because of compression and it might just be the rings. I'd get a boroscope in there before anything else. Frank Bullitt
Another vote for a rebuild. Any idea how much bigger the rebore needs to be?
jongilly
Just done a sniff test on the radiator.. its not a head gasket issue...although the water system is pressurised. Bubbles over when hot with radiator cap off Also this arrived Edited June 22, 2021 by jongilly (see edit history)
