Bender
Ok so it only happend twice so far but made me wonder... 1st time 2 weeks ago short trip around 3 miles in total back to my drive yellow oil light come up i turn off the car start again and its gone 2nd time today i done like a mile stuck in traffic and yellow light again 2 minutes after light gone by itself I check oil level every couple of days and it is exactly where it should be only done 3500km on that oil. Also car is really in amazing condition there is not even a single leak under the bonnet engine dry as bone. Anyone had a idea what it could be (Faulty oil sensor?) rider
From the manual - "Low Oil Level Warning Light (without waves underneath) This light warns that the engine oil pressure is too low. If it flickers or stays on while you are driving, pull off the road to a safe place and stop the engine immediately. Call a Toyota dealer or qualified repair shop for assistance. The light may occasionally flicker when the engine is idling or it may come on briefly after a hard stop. There is no cause for concern if it then goes out when the engine is accelerated slightly. The light may come on when the oil level is extremely low. It is not designed to indicate low oil level, and the oil level must be checked using the level dipstick. NOTICE Do not drive the vehicle with the warning light on—even for one block. It may ruin the engine." A failing oil pressure sender is always the first thing to hope for and to change. Location front left side of engine block 83530-30090.
Bender
Thanks for part number (its that for TT?) its changing that is quite straight forward ie. Can i do it myself or required to take off half of the engine bay and 7 special tools? Thanks
Scooter
Rider's posted description sounds like the red oil light not the yellow one? You say under the bonnet is bone dry, worth a good torch around from underneath/through wheel arches etc to triple check oil isn't collecting in/on the undertray. That seems unlikely if you've checked the levels etc. So could well be a sticking/faulty oil level sensor, there is a little float section and may be that's getting stuck down sometimes? Bender
Worth a try did those on ebay for around 15 Pound any good or go for geniue toyota one?
m12aak
I've never used one myself, but given that new OEM ones are £150+ it's worth a punt in my eyes. Have you got a link for it? I've done a quick search and can't find anything.
Bender
I just put part number on ebay and there is few and most of them look similar. I also saw something on amayama for 15 pounds but that waiting time...
Scooter
As the issue seems intermittent you could remove the current one and check the 'float' movement is smooth, probably could check the continuity etc on it? Perhaps a good brake cleaner etc clean up and refit and it'll be fine? The sensor is 'L' shaped and reasonably delicate so will need rotating/teasing out the hole if you do remove it. erachter
I had exactly same issue on mine after oil change(appearing when stuck in traffic) and it disappeared by itself in a couple of days
Burna
Yep my bad, was my first day back at work yesterday Red is pressure not orange. What level on the dipstick do you keep it at? And what grade oil? I still think it's worth checking the oil pressure too, as there are a hell of a lot of owners running around on original engines, oil pumps, water pumps, pistons and rings etc... these things don't last forever!
