m12aak
Mine has also started to do that on the NA (albeit not to that extent). I believe it's caused by the dash warping. I've just checked and that vent looks to be discontinued (55981-14010) so I would be extremely careful if removing it or opt to leave it as is, just in case. I've never looked into how you'd remove it but the part diag. (below) appears to show some clips that it probably slots into and then it is pressure fit into the hole in the dash/the HVAC duct. Hopefully someone can chime in and confirm/deny this and possibly offer a fix!

Any tiny pits left over use a rust converter lile bilthamber. Thats usually where people stop. It does convert the rust but left to the elements rust will appear again. So coat it with a 2k epoxy. And then you can use waxoyl over it. Waxoyl over bare metal is pretty much a waste of time. It helps repel the elements but its not 100% protective hello mate, just coming round to buy the bits i need for this. So would you just leave the underside with an epoxy primer and not paint over it? if you do paint, do you need to use a specific paint? I was going to waxoyl but my paint guy says the oven will turn it all to goo when he comes to do the paint..

tayr
Forgot where I’m up to but here is some progress as of Sunday. ive removed a lot of the misc clips etc. Got my delivery of Ridox skirts and oem Spats delivered from Knight racer. Not the best fit but I’m sure the body shop will be able to sort them no problem. My concern is that they’re a bit thin, so will need bulking out. removed the washer rear washer jet and other connections to the rear hatch. (slicing my finger yet again) The car is booked into the body shop for all the metalwork first on w/c 16th. I had some spare time so thought I’d tackle some of the underside. It’s not too bad but want to make sure anything and everything is dealt with. I ended up using Dinitrol RC900 which is a rust converter and epoxy primer in one. It penetrates 7-10 times deeper than other brands supposedly. I have bought some attachments so I can use these in the cavities too. I brass/wire brushed surface rust and took it back to bare metal in some places just to check the condition. Obviously when the car is back from bodyshop I’ll use a cavity wax in the box sections and probably look to underseal the car. As you can see it’s not too bad but would rather be safe than sorry. Obviously after using a rust converter it can look worse than it is. I'll try get some better pictures once it has dried. I think @m12aak was wondering what I used to dissolve some Of the seals. This works well. Today I received one of my big orders from Amayama, such a great company to deal with. Good prices and very easy. I have also sent off my exhaust shields, fuel tank cover, crash bar, exhaust hanger and rear tow hook for blasting and painting. next update will be after the car is back from Having the metalwork done Edited August 3, 2021 by tayr (see edit history)
Peter P
Nice work mate. Where is the car in these photos? Jealous if it’s your garage as you have a proper lift! Lol. What’s with the American flag? Shouldn’t the stars be top left…… I have some American license plates and a flag to put up myself when the time comes. Look forward to seeing further updates once the metalwork is done.

Look forward to seeing further updates once the metalwork is done. My old man and I import american cars every so often as a hobby so its a small unit that we have. It's really handy having the lift. A two post would be ideal but the ground isn't thick enough for the supports. The flag is hanging portrait thats why it looks wrong . Do love a bit of USA Memorabilia, they are very over the top over there. Thanks mate! Still deciding whether to weld up the rear wiper hole or just use the wiper delete thing.
Noz
weld it up. do it properly. you're respraying the car. Get rid of that aerial nonsense as well. and third brake light! Don't weld up the door though. Need that working. 1

Peter P
Yes mate, although I was also told Japanese and American together was an odd mix! Still planning to do it for my garage as I love the States and all my friends over the pond, but I also love my Japanese cars so it makes sense to me! Looks good buddy. I approve and will be following your lead!
tayr
Little update - car now back from metalwork being done. I had all the little bodykit holes filled and sorted, the bootlid rust sorted and one of the rear inlets sorted. Also picked up a second TS bumper because why not.. I seem have to have collected alot of bodykit parts now.. oops. Also purchased TRD Spoiler which arrived yesterday so that will be sprayed at same time. This weekend i'll be spraying a rust converter inside the sills/box sections just as extra protection. (The insides are pretty clean - i used a camera and their is only the odd speckle). Then I'll pop the wings, bonnet and rear bumper loosely on, maybe try and fit the front bumper loosely too. Then it'll be down to the bodyshop on 06/09.
Burna
Don't wax oil the sills/box sections if you are spraying the car mate!

tayr
Small update.. painted my fuel tank cover while I’m waiting for my exhaust shields to be blasted and hi temp painted. My rear crash bar, rear tow my hook and exhaust hanger brackets have now been blasted and painted too. during last week I prepped and raptor coated the sills to protect them from any future corrosion. Eventually I’ll do the full tunnel and behind the wings but it’s no cheap stuff! received my TRD wing from whifbitz, unfortunately one side had been drilled incorrectly so have sent that back to him, Hopefully get the replacement shortly. mocked up the bonnet and checked a couple of my Bumpers to see which fit better.. rear hatch now removed and today it’s been taken down for its bare Metal respray. I expect it back in a few weeks, then I’ll give it a full fluid change, fix some leaks and fit an FMIC as the stock ones looking a bit worse for wear.
tayr
Heard from the bodyshop yesterday. They are just preparing the car for full bare metal. They need to do the bits around the windows and other misc bits but they are cracking on nicely.. They said there was no filler found anywhere which was good. The front wing has now been knocked out and as it was a little rippley from the knocking - primed and filled.
tayr
Got some More done today, the shell is now in epoxy (they’re doing the rear panel and misc bits next week) . This is while it’s wet but it will get blocked and smoothed along with some of the little imperfections rectified.
tayr
Little update.. heat shields received back today. Miles Better, the larger one does have some small holes now where the corrosion had gone through but for £20/each plus vat to be blasted and hi temp painted I can’t complain. The body shop has now mocked up the Ridox skirts and oem spats so they fit nicely. They put the doors back on to check for rubbing which they have now sanded some of the top of the skirt to stop it catching. The doors will now come back off and it should be finished by next Friday Then the car was 2k primed Edited October 11, 2021 by tayr (see edit history)

At the moment i'm not in a real hurry. I don't see it being back on the road until april next year as i don't like to drive my cars from Oct-Apr anyway but it gives me time to get some of the misc leaks sorted and upgrade some bits slowly without the bank account taking too much of a hit

Hoping to do a couple of shows before the season finishes, then it’s more work in the Winter for sure. One thing I have learnt is you need lots of patience when you have a project build! Things often go wrong and trying to work to fixed deadlines is a nightmare! Sounds like you’ve got a good plan.
tayr
So that’s the shell, skirts and spats bonded and painted. Having a couple issues with the bumper fitment at the moment so trying to figure out best way to rectify it. Where it meets the wing it’s sitting away from the body. I think it’s meant to hook over the wing but not sure. Need to play around. By end of week hopefully everything painted, doors, bonnet and bumper back on, then back to me to start putting it all back together. These are pre flat and polish Edited October 14, 2021 by tayr (see edit history)
tayr
So picked the car up on Friday and started putting some bits back together. I've booked the glass to go back in on the 18th of this month Firstly, i put the freshly painted crash bar back in, threaded the light wiring back through and got the rear hatch and struts back in place. After this i got the TRD Spoiler mounted and put the rear toyota badge on along with the de-wiper bung After this i fit the aerocatches on the front for extra safety. After this i cut and threaded the rear reversing camera so i wouldn't have to muck around later Then it was time to put the freshly painted exhaust shields, exhaust hanger bracket and rear tow hook back on. That's it as of today. I plan to get the rear bumper, rear lights, fuel cap, third brake light, aerial, door handles and wing mirrors fitted at the weekend coming up ready for glass to go back in on monday. All coming along nicely. Nice progress and great to have a date booked for the glass to go back in. If it’s anything like mine, that was a major turning point. Everything seemed to go back together pretty quickly after that. Looks like a nice job on the paint, you pleased with it?
