mwilkinson
Hi all, I'm looking to order a part that is otherwise discontinued but which Amayama have said they have one. I note their website says they have currently suspended deliveries to the UK and to expect an additional 6 week delay. I've enquired about this but they are being suitably coy. Has anyone recently ordered from them and were there delays or cancellations? Thanks, Matt.
jim_supra
Not ordered from the recently I'm afraid but have noticed they have done that a few times. Have you tried impex? https://en.impex-jp.com/login.html Website not as good as amayama, but cheaper oftentimes than amayama, have used them a few times over the past couple years without issue
mwilkinson
It's annoying they won't say when this restriction will lift. I don't want to order from them only to find I have to wait 6 months to get the part, if at all. However, it is reassuring that they have done this before, and that this isn't nessessarily a permanent thing. I've not heard of impex before, but will see if they have the part I need. Thanks for the recommendation.
jim_supra
Another one I sometimes use is a Toyota dealer in Germany, certain parts come out very well priced compared to UK https://ersatzteile-toyota.com/epages/77dfc38f-d96f-46a3-a239-427e75e452a3.mobile/sec231c07e261/?ObjectID=26513596 Not used them since before Brexit though so not sure what import charges will be like now
J-Meiser
I've ordered a LOT of parts from Amayama recently and despite their warning about restrictions, I've had everything* arrive within 2-3 weeks of my order being confirmed. *Everything except for some bolts that suddenly became discontinued . raddys
I've placed 2 orders with them in the last month and both arrived about 2 weeks ago, bare in mind I ordered about 17 separate items and only one was not in stock. I received my refund for the out of stock item in 3 days

mc92
I got some stuff from Amayama a couple of weeks ago, it took 3 days to get here from Japan! That's the fastest it's ever been for me.
mwilkinson
Thanks for all the comments guys. I'll give Amayama a punt. I've done a pre-order stock check so it should be available.
Supra2jze
I ordered an ABS sensor that was allegedly discontinued but was showing available on Amayamas website. I went ahead and purchased despite the website saying 6 week delay due to Covid-19 Part arrived within 3 weeks.

I saw they had them in stock and was tempted, but that was just for one part number so I didn’t bother. The rear ABS sensor replacement issues currently do worry me as I will be re-furbing the rear hubs when I change out my wheel bearings I want to remove the old sensors
Mugello
Amayama have always been good for me, but my last order was late last year.

Probably because most parts sent from Amayama's Japanese warehouse are sent via ship and the preferred shipping route goes via the Suez canal. SUPRA4EVA
I had the same question...as someone suggested it for checking part availability and I see you can buy stuff direct too. So would you use Amayama vs calling a local trader? I been getting quotes for stuff from all over...but adding stuff to basket on Amayama, it seem like you could save a FORTUNE...but does it actually come out that way? They seem to combine shipping too...but what about import fees? I don't mind waiting a bit for stuff. Do trades just use these places to get you parts then? Depending on what and how much you are buying, you will most likely have to pay duty as well as VAT. Sometimes it works out cheaper but the hidden costs soon mount up until there’s not really much in it.
mwilkinson
I would entirely prefer to buy from a UK trader, even if slightly more expensive, as you have recourse when things go wrong. I wouldn't hold my breath for the same from many of the overseas traders. However, on rare occasions UK traders can't source parts which are available through overseas companies. This is the case for the part I'm looking at getting.
rider
Anyone buying from Amayama needs to be aware of their terms and conditions which effectively means nothing is warranted and in the burning hoops scenario that they are , defective parts need to be returned at the buyers expense. A precis of their terms is that only parts fitted or handled by a main dealer are covered. Also defective parts must be returned accompanied by a letter from an authorised technician or service manager from the main dealer outlining what the problem is. Good luck with that, which is why I'd never buy anything other than stamped metal, bolts and washers from Amayama. jim_supra
Whilst the warranty issue is certainly true, and would be a nightmare should any part arrive defective, I'd be very interested to see how many people have actually received faulty genuine Toyota parts from amayama or others (even UK sources) I'd say the occurrence is extremely low and so risk is low. Mugello
Its worth always paying for items online via a credit card where possible to give you some protection. Although I believe there is a minimum - maximum amount for this to be triggered? Having said that, I always forget to use a credit card! SUPRA4EVA
Yeah I guess anything that you can get here, just get here. Just gotta included P&P but otherwise you know what you're paying in the end. With today's import fees you won't be saving sh1t anyway. Best thing is to ask everyone you can, someone will find the part...as long as it's not long discontinued. mwilkinson
Well I put a £1500 parts order into Amayama to see how it faired. I declined payment subject to stock verification. I'm glad I did as about 15 items are delayed by 30 days, but not discontinued, and they wanted £600 for postage! It was only nuts, bolts, clips and and a few smaller parts etc. No big heavy items at all. I don't think I'll be proceeding. I'll take my chances with a UK supplier. Frank Bullitt
£600 in postage? Did you query that with them?
mwilkinson
No. I've not gone back to them yet. But they have reviewed it as part of the part availability checks. Edited May 25, 2021 by mwilkinson (see edit history)

Guess it was being hand delivered by someone on a scooter.
