Hj.2jz
Hi all, As above how many of you's will or have some form of effect from the ULEZ that's killing us all. I own 2 classics, a BMW E30 and an FTO. (Searching for my TT 2JZ). What's everybody's thoughts on having a aftermarket catalytic convertor fitted?. I know it will be an insult to the cars and will cause a lot or if not, major problems., some cases may not even be possible. Even if we did fit these, will it solve the problem of complying with ULEZ. Many people will have ways to get around things, but its a situation not many would want to discuss openly. Surely no Supra 2jz gte owner is going to remove their legendary engines to drop in a silly electric motor. Let's me know on your thoughts.. mellonman
Part of the reason I sold my supra. When this creeps out further later this year I wouldn't even be able to drive it to work on the weekend to charge my battery.
Pudsey
Interesting to see what happens. There is plenty of wealth associated with owning classic cars, so there must be some sort of solution. I seem to remember the 2JZ GTE was only discontinued because it couldn’t meet the emissions requirements, so extra Catalytic Convertors won’t work as it was designed with a primary and secondary from new oem. Not sure if you saw my other thread, as I have been looking at Range Rovers, and the 2012 5.0 Supercharged Petrol is ULEZ compliant apparently, so that made me wonder strange how a Standard-ish Supra with a Cat fitted isn’t. Be all about money at the end of day.

rider
There is a light at the end of the tunnel for Some A80 Supra owners from 2033. That's not really that far ahead. "the ULEZ charge doesn’t apply to any road vehicle that was registered before January 1, 1973. You can also apply for exemption from the ULEZ if your vehicle was built more than 40 years ago," You are exempt if your car is a licenced London Taxi. Not going to work for a Supra. Other exemptions relate to public service vehicles, again not a Supra thing, and suitably new clean running petrol and electric vehicles, again not a Supra thing. So all London owners, best park up until the car reaches 40 years of age. PS - I'm almost tempted to take my 1965 4.7l Ford Mustang to London just to spread the fumes. SUPRA4EVA
This "You can also apply for exemption from the ULEZ if your vehicle was built more than 40 years ago" So can this be done with every vehicle as soon as it turns 40 at any point in the future? Unless the legislation changes then yes, it's a rolling 40 year date. At some point though it will stop though, some streets in London are already electric cars only at peak times but expect this to spread and time periods to increase.
