Mid_lifecry_sis
Just a very simple question from a very simple non technical guy. Today, in the heat, my revs, and engines started to dance from 250 to 900 rpm, intermittently... I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS GOING TO STALL Cause anyone? New fuel filter 10 thou ago main service, plus service oil change a week ago. was it the heat, turned her off and back on... problem went away and then ever so slightly, slightly, slightly came back but it was more a micro millimetre movement from the rev gauge so??? Appreciate any comments.
Thorin
Mine has done similar on a couple of occasions or so. Did it today too, noticed the revs were lower than usual (around 400 revs) and varying but only slightly. Never as much as your 250-900 though. Was fine after about 5 min. Mid_lifecry_sis
cheers thor... thinking about it, it was from the standard ?? 500rpm or so down to 250... would colder plugs such as the IK24's do this? Comments (here we go again!) PS: Isn't the biggest issue on the tech board so no rush...
mos
This might sound strange but here is a few things, when my n/a does it i simply dial in more fuel on my afr idle and it clears. The things that it could be is dirty idle air control valve, try cleaning it with carb cleaner. The other thing it could be is an intermittant fault with the coolant temperature sensor, causing the ecu to adjust its fuelling.
Mid_lifecry_sis
And these sensors are located where m8? And this sounds like good techi advice from a Newbi 2!!!!!! My neigbours! aka ' fast show'
mos
Idle air control vv is on the the throttle body next to butterfly, it should have IAC written on it. Simply undo the screws and you will see a plunger, give that a clean and the hole it goes into. I need to get the page and post for water sens. I am a newbie here but not with my car (over 3 years) and spent most my time on the U.S forums.

Steve W
Idle Air Valve is located at the opposite end of the Inlet Manifold to the Butterfly (throttle) ie. up the Bulkhead end :- [ ps. "1" is Throttle ('Butterfly') "2" is Throttle Position Sensor "3" is Sub/'Traction' Positon Sensor "4" is Sub/'Traction' Butterfly 'Motor' ............i think ? ]
Steve W
Mine played up ~month ago. BUT, mine was doing the opposite ! It was holding the revs TOO high (~1,100) because a bit of plastic had lodged under the 'plunger' allowing too much air in ie. increasing idle. [funny enough it DID have your symptoms when cold/warming-up it would start-up lower than usual ~1,200 and immediately drop to ~800 but feel a little RUFF - which the Soop NEVER does ! ! - if I tried to pull away THEN it would almost stall ! ! - then once warm, it would do the 1,100 thing] VERY tricky to unscrew the IAV ! the bottom Phillips is a BA**ARD to reach ! I dropped a 'bit' and holder and never saw it again ! FatS.
Steve W
BTW... Water Temperature Sensor (x 2) are just behind the top/left Cam pulley -ish................ [or, behind the top rad hose where it goes into the engine] ps. can't remember which is 'guage' and which is for ECU:eek:
