SuperSupra
Coming to work this morning and as I approached a junction - SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!! Oh my god how embarrassing! Never had a car with squeeky brakes, is this a common Supra issue and what's the best medicine for them???

Soonto_HAS_soop
Check your pads as they could be getting to the time to change them, they squeek as a warning. On the other hand, my Brembos squeal like mad, so it could just be that you are unlucky.
SuperSupra
Check your brakepads Just had them replaced a couple of weeks ago on the service. Fronts were replaced, and I think the squeeking is coming from the fronts. It's a bitch! Is there anything you can do to get rid of it?
Bobbeh
Do you pads have the anti squeal shims with them, or were they thrown away?
SuperSupra
Do you pads have the anti squeal shims with them, or were they thrown away? Good question, haven't got a clue! They were changed by Chris Wilson so I guess only he'll know! Or I can look when I finish work but not sure I'll know what I'm looking for! Bobbeh
They're thin metal strips on the side of the pad that sit between the pad and the piston... you may not have had them on before so he may not have had anything to put on... but a lot of people thrown them away anyway. Chris probably thought they add weight to the car
SuperSupra
Hmmm, can I get hold of them, and how would I go about greasing them? Sorry I'm retarded when it comes to brakes!!!
Bobbeh
Copper grease, any mechanic should have a pot of this..and yeah you can get shim kits from Toyota. Chris even may have spares at his place.
supRo
If you haven't got em, then yes you can get them from toyota. With the anti-squeel shims on, you don't need to use copper grease. If you haven't got them, I may have some spare (front J spec), PM me and I'll post them out tonight. Ro

Wash the wheels out regularly though and its not as bad.

Must admit when i washed my car very thoroughly the other day they didn't make an ounce of a squeek! Might just have to wash a bit more often, my car that is!!!! Chris Wilson
They VERY rarely squeal, so I expect they may just be bedding into the discs. If it persists i will post you an anti squeal shim kit FOC, but i have only once had to use them with my fast road pads, and that was with someone using grooved or drilled 9can't recall which) Taiwanese discs. Give them a couple of hundered miles to bed fully, if it persists just ring me and I'll post you some off. Sorry you have this noise.
