Dont do this....

So i was re-fitting the rear bumper after some tlc (a touch up). The 2 nuts in the drivers rear quarter were tightened up, then i dropped the driver down into the quarter, it fell next to the plastic vent.

Ive spent about an hour an a half so far "fishing" with a magnet and string but still no luck.

I started to to try an remove the plastic vent but theres no space next to the petrol tank.

Ive borrowed a telescopic magnet so tomorow i'll be attempting it again.

Anyone else done this and can offer some pearls of wisdom....

If you remove the tank cover which is only about 10 bolts then you'll be able to clear out the soil from inside the tank cover and check its inside condition, mine was pretty bad and had about 4kg of soil and stones inside, and then you can get to the cabin air vent bolts.

Its a good time to get the tank guard off for a look over as you can still buy that part, around £240 from Toyota or £200 from Mark on the forum.

I know that vent you mean!    It's long shot but you could remove the hockey stick plastic and fittings and then you might be able to find it there, then a sticky rod  and push it up toward the vent (obviously if it won't - and I don't think it will - come out the hole.

Thanks folks for reaching out. I borrowed a telescopic magnet and had it fished out in 5mins, first try.

I should have a look at this now you mention it, can you remove it with the rear bumper in place? The outside has been undersealed and looks ok but i know looks are often misleading.

This is the tool i rescued, it had a 1/4" drive on top of the handle and the magnet got it.
