I have one regular car on 300,000 pus miles, ball joints perfect, another 250,000 plus miles, same. I suspect BIG wheel / tyre combos are causing this, are you on big rims Rob, if you don't mind me asking? Carlos has had his lower ball joints give wear issues, he's on big rims... The only problem I can see is that you are probably going to have to pay ~£120 for a proper wheel-alignment job after making a mess of the camber, so it would be a pain to have to pay that again. Chris Wilson Posted October 11, 2005 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Don't apologize, but DO consider what extar loads are being fed into the suspension to wear out a large, hefty bottom ball joint in a few thousand miles, whereby the stock set up seems good for 200,000 miles plus.... It makes me wonder if we might even be about to see some catastrophic failures on suspension parts soon? I REALLY hope not, but this trend, if it is caused by the weight and inertia of big heavy wheels and tyres, could be becomimng very worrying. RobSheffield Posted October 11, 2005 Author Share Posted October 11, 2005 i would have to agree Chris the nearside wheel bearing was shot, and so is the offside bottom ball joint and track rod ends.... however my car came with a full cage, Hipermax Pro Performer super stiff suspension, an HKS Fcon V and 30,000 miles i would would be tempted to say it had spent a small portion of its life on a track! The chap at the garage I use raised the car off it's wheels and used a crowbar as a lever underneath the wheel. The wheel went up and down nearly 2cm on the balljoint.
