The drive to SORN

Recommended Posts

Only 2 years ago there was a healthy majority of Mk4 Supras taxed at this time of year over those off road, on SORN. This winter, for the first time ever, more Mk4's are now on SORN than taxed. The drive to garage storage is well on track for this ageing icon of the road. I'm firmly with the majority on this, SORN from October to April.

I'm the opposite. Mines been SORN for nearly a decade now, I've finally managed to get it back on the road a couple weeks ago and so it'll be getting driven every opportunity I can this winter, weather permitting.

More than likely though next winter I'll be keeping it SORN and tucked up in the garage.

What does everyone do with insurance? Pay for a hole year or how does it work?

You can get parked up insurance but that's not usually any cheaper than normal insurance expecially if only for a few months cover. So to keep fire and theft cover its best to leave the insurance running. Parking up for half the year does mean the milage is reduced which should be reflected in your insurance premium. I have my car on 1,000 mile a year limit, it actually only manages around 250 miles a year these days.

I've SORN'd mine for the a few years now come winter. Not only are the cars appreciating in value, but replacement parts are becoming eye watering. I spend a fortune on getting the underside back to a respectable level, so I'd rather protect the investment at this point.

I have never SORN mine in my ownership, I dont plan on doing it this year.

I enjoy driving the car all year round and I get that they are going up in value but I didnt buy mine for making money I throughly enjoy driving it. The weathe rin the winter can be hit and miss but my supra i find very tractable and enjoyable in most conditions including the wet, the snow can be reasonable as well ( read - Cheap / low speed drifitng )

I always tax and mot my cars even if there not in use for long periods and it was down to a mates bike being stolen

He has two bikes and alternates each year with them

The bike that was sorn didn't have a MOT that year got nicked and only got half the value from the insurance due to he could not prove it was a road worthy vehicle
