swiftstu
Hi all, ive got a mixture of symptoms, so can’t find an answer from previous posts. My steering is a little twitchy at low speeds- it veers to the left slightly, and feels a bit vague and light- it has been aligned and left the garage ok in that respect, so not sure there. at higher speeds it feels the same but seems to need little adjustments to keep the car in a straight line ( only minor adjustments but more than it should) it sort of mixes symptoms from other posts, but my closest idea is bushes. Any thoughts?
rider
Most cars will veer slightly left on a normal road due to the camber. See if it does the same on a good size car park. If it does then your alignment does need checking again. If you want a heavier feel then you can set the caster higher. I went for 4 degrees when I had my alignment done to give a heavier feel to the steering. You might want to look at a proper alignment place rather than a garage. Chassis tuning is a bit of a black art. I went to Center Gravity.

Thanks Rider- I’m happy the response wasn’t - all the bushes definitely need changing right away. although it is also the same in a wide open flat space... mc92
You could try unplugging the plug on the power steering rack for the speed adaptive power steering if you don't like the feel of it at lower speeds. I much prefer it to be a bit heavier.

Chris Wilson
Tracking a mile out, probably toeing out? Wrong offset wheels, silly size wheels and tyres? Could be a problem from the back end, also. Bushes in lower front wishbones could be shot. Should be easy enough to trace. On sensible rims and tyres the car shouldn't do this. Good heads up - I'm sensing bushes, but it is also sitting on large wheels so that may not help. Ta
evinX
19" in winter? Failing that id steer towards crap tyres. Does it feel like the car slips to one side?

Does it feel like the car slips to one side? Sorry @evinX - I've not been getting notifications on posts in my email, but have over the last few weeks. It does steer to the left a bit, but it's more the micro corrections on the wheel that annoy me. It's like my hands need to constantly move to keep the car straight. It's like the front wheels are wobbling a little. I think I'll have them look at it when I have it serviced next month - and prepare my wallet for the impending doom... Chris Wilson
borrow a set of wheels and tyres like the car was designed to run on (17 inch with the correct offset, and the correct width and profile tyres). If the issue disappears then whoever flogged you the rims and tyres sold you stuff unsuitable for the correct operation of the car. IMO the cars are horrible on 19 inch rims and tyres, manageable OK on 18 inch, very nice on 17 inch, and in difficult wet or slippery conditions and poor road surfaces, a dream on 16 inch. But appearance usurps practicality in many cases, hence the sweaty palm, whoooah, where's it going now feeling driving poorly modded cars and wallet damage and court time with exotic women, especially if you marry one Edited January 18, 2021 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)

I'll track down some when I can and give that a try. The wheels came with the car, so didn't question it. The issue seems to be worse though Edited January 25, 2021 by swiftstu (see edit history)

Chris Wilson
They are certainly not an outrageous size to be fair. But I would have concerns as to the make and model , especially in the wet, my experience of these is they are good ditch finders in the damp / wet.
