mark.supra
Just wondered when you should change the cam belt to be safe. My baby is showing 42000 miles. Also how much would i expect to pay?
Paul
62000 or five years I believe? Just had mine changed at 80,000 despite it having one at 60,000 only becuase the five years was up. Paul
supragold
I paid about £175 for my cam belt change with a Toyota dealer about 1 1/2 years ago.
rob wild
The maintenance Schedule says 60K but i had mine done at 45K cause it was starting to look shabby. I paid £145 from a local garage. Here's the maintenance Schedule: http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/maintenance_schedule/a.jpg
bignum
hi matey, the book says 60k but i got mine done at 50,ive heard of some going just before 60k and its not pretty, expect to pay around the 200 mark using a toyota belt NOT some car spares crap, also dont scrimp on the fitting, the first "garage"i took mine too took 4 hours and couldent undo the crank bolt, next specialist i went too ,job completed in 2 hours so spend that little extraits worth the piece of mind. Homer
As Paul said its 60k or 5 yrs, any pre 95 supra should be on at least its 3rd belt by now. So, if you think your's hasn't been changed since 2000 then its due soon!
Digsy
Its not a bad idea to change the belt when you buy the car so you know where you are starting from. As for it being "not pretty" if the cambelt goes, all Supras apart from VVTIs are clearance engines, so the worst that will happen is an embarrasing tow home. merckx
all Supras apart from VVTIs are clearance engines Never knew that, are you 100% sure?
Digsy
Yep, its been discussed on here several times before. Actually, if you run big cams or buy vernier pulleys and feck about with the timing then you can make the engine into an interference one. Someone may post up the limit on cam duration if they read this.

Scarface GTti
My mate had a Nissan Micra and he read the manual as saying change the belt at 50k. So seeing as he was on 48k he had some time to go. Unfortunately it was 50k or every 3 years. One day when the car was idling on the drive the 13 year old cambelt let go! When i pulled the engine down the cambelt had crumbled to a dust type of compound and it had wiped out 3 valves. I should think that hardly anyone on here does the type of mileage to warrant what mileage its due, i would concentrate more upon the amount of time it has been on. If you don`t know, change it now! It was the very first job i did on mine.
SimonB
It's 6 years actually, not 5.

supRo
For BPU/small single, are stock belts adequate or kevlar/uprated belt essential?

max55uk
If there is no record of the cambelt being replaced get it sorted for the sake of 150 pounds!, specially Jap imports, they boast very low mileage but can be decieving!.
