An A340E automatic transmission is a box full of clutches and sooner or later, one of them will wear out first. :shrug:

 

 

O.D. is the weakest, only 2 clutch-plates here.

 

O.D. stands for Over-Driven, and is for light-throttle eco-cruising.

 

 

Always turn O.D. off for WOT driving.

 

 

Always also, engage "Low" for any burnout silliness, if it gets the chance to change-up to 2nd-gear mid-burnout, it's very likely to break 2nd-gear clutch-basket. (Sprag)

 

 

Avoid these :idiot: pitfalls, maintain ATF correctly and the transmission should live on to become a ripe old age.

 

Eventually, dying a slow peaceful death from slipping 3rd-gear clutches. :amen:

The most frequent cause of automatic transmission failure is because they were owned by idiots.

So unless you want to be next on the list, I suggest that you TURN YOUR BRAIN ON and read this. :shrug:

Hi Dave but of advice if there is any easy checks my box slips very intermittent not all the time only felt it in 3rd gear usually at hard throttle or just after changing gear when driven hard no burnt fluid ect I have a mines ecu could this affect it confusing it or is there anything else I can check to identify if it's the box or converter i have bought a used box to go in am a just easeir getting it changed over or what would your advise be should I change filter and fluid again could it be pressure realated

My best almost blind guess!

 

In this instance, being a Mines ECU won't be any different to being an OE ECU.

 

The problem is not the torque converter, it is the transmission.

 

If your transmission hasn't been maintained properly, (like most Club members auto boxes) you could try fitting a new strainer and giving it a full flush with premium ATF (Not the cheapest of cheap piss that many/most Club idiots use) and add a bottle of Lucas SS.

 

This may resurrect it for a while?
