Fulcrum2000
Hi All Anyone have a spare non VVTI ECU they want to sell for my JDM TT Auto? I want ot swap it out to see if it helps my gearbox issues. Have cash waiting.....
Frank Bullitt
Whilst you’re waiting on an ECU, whip the cover off yours and take a look at both sides of the board. It could be the caps. To check for non obvious leaks, get a small piece of white paper and slide it between the cap and board. Blown caps are usually easy to spot as they balloon. Frank Bullitt
Not an ECU but the same principal. Caps look great. Caps removed, you can see the fluid has leaked.
Fulcrum2000
Hi Frank thanks for that I will have a nosey at the weekend at that! I do still want one though, so does anyone have one they want to sell?
Scooter
If you get stuck for a refundable fee I can send you one that does everything perfectly APART from go into 4th gear. It might help you compare to yours, if a fully working used on doesn't come out of the woodwork for you.

You could just bang it in the post first class recorded to me and send me your paypal and I will pay it now or whatever suits you? Then if the symptoms change I will know I've found the problem. Fulcrum2000
It just occured to me you dont know me from Adam and I could go off cackling into the fog like Jack the Ripper with the ECU, I'm happy to leave a deposit too if you want? Scooter
High yes, in this day and age I feel I need to just as it's useful to have back (for me and to send out to others)........it's not much use to anyone long term unless they like their track days but if they're money is elsewhere then there is an incentive to return it!! I'll pm you.

Scooter
Ah got your first message, will clear out more space......will try and package it tonight for sending tomorrow
Frank Bullitt
So how did you get on with the checks or your current ECU? Want to take some photos and post them up?
Fulcrum2000
My little boy was ill this weekend so I havent had chance, I'll combine the two jobs when Scooter's arrives and check my old one at the same time, obviously if there's no difference with either its academic but I'm hopeful. I've found a replacement I can buy if it is the ECU but they want 450 for it, is that right? Seems rather steep but auto ones seem rarer for some reason? Scooter
To be fair it makes sense to wait for mine, as once he starts taking caps off etc it's going to mean he's off the road........I don't think many are comfortable resoldering their ECU's (I took mine apart and couldn't see anything and even sent it to a company and they couldn't see anything untoward - they offered to resolder the board but with no guarantees so I left it). If the car behaves the same with my ECU then arguably it's a waste of time?

Auto ones tend to be rarer/more expensive as the autobox control parts 'seem' to go wrong more.....it does seem pricey but everything has a Supra tax now. Given their age as the used price goes up then a new one seems attractive (assuming a new one that's probably still 15-20 years old won't have deteriorated to the same degree as a in use one?) Fulcrum2000
If it wasnt too much more I'd go new but I just cant find one anywhere. I darent ring Toyota near me, they quoted 1700 quid to supply and fit a water pump a few months ago!

I didn’t say anything about pulling caps off the ECU or desoldering anything, you would need the values first and then to order replacements. That was your interpretation. I’m talking about removing the ECU from car, whipping the covers off, taking of a photo of both sides, posting them up and doing the paper test. Could easily be done in less than 30 mins. You can lead a horse to water...

Toyota must be charging near to £200/hr labour to stretch anywhere near to that figure. You should have asked for a 10% discount.

If it’s a private individual then I’d say it’s fairly rich, and would say £250 -£300 would be closer to where the valuation would be at. I also agree that the Auto ECU seems to be harder to come by than the manual variant. I could be reading too far into it, but perhaps there are more TT6 owners who have went with a Standalone ECU when going single. Just a thought
Fulcrum2000
Well if it does indeed turn out to be the problem if there's anyone on here with an ECU with a lower price I would be interested?

Fulcrum2000
If its of any help I have a Aristo TT Auto non VVTi Ecu. Again to use what is fast becoming a catchphrase 'excuse my ignorance' but is that the same ECU as a 93 TT Auto Supra has?
