If you get stuck for a refundable fee I can send you one that does everything perfectly APART from go into 4th gear. It might help you compare to yours, if a fully working used on doesn't come out of the woodwork for you.

This would be very useful, I am happy to pay shipping or whatever just to borrow it? You could just bang it in the post first class recorded to me and send me your paypal and I will pay it now or whatever suits you? Then if the symptoms change I will know I've found the problem.

High yes, in this day and age I feel I need to just as it's useful to have back (for me and to send out to others)........it's not much use to anyone long term unless they like their track days but if they're money is elsewhere then there is an incentive to return it!!

I'll pm you.

My little boy was ill this weekend so I havent had chance, I'll combine the two jobs when Scooter's arrives and check my old one at the same time, obviously if there's no difference with either its academic but I'm hopeful. I've found a replacement I can buy if it is the ECU but they want 450 for it, is that right? Seems rather steep but auto ones seem rarer for some reason?

To be fair it makes sense to wait for mine, as once he starts taking caps off etc it's going to mean he's off the road........I don't think many are comfortable resoldering their ECU's (I took mine apart and couldn't see anything and even sent it to a company and they couldn't see anything untoward - they offered to resolder the board but with no guarantees so I left it). If the car behaves the same with my ECU then arguably it's a waste of time?

Auto ones tend to be rarer/more expensive as the autobox control parts 'seem' to go wrong more.....it does seem pricey but everything has a Supra tax now. Given their age as the used price goes up then a new one seems attractive (assuming a new one that's probably still 15-20 years old won't have deteriorated to the same degree as a in use one?)

I didn’t say anything about pulling caps off the ECU or desoldering anything, you would need the values first and then to order replacements. That was your interpretation. I’m talking about removing the ECU from car, whipping the covers off, taking of a photo of both sides, posting them up and doing the paper test.

Could easily be done in less than 30 mins.

If it’s a private individual then I’d say it’s fairly rich, and would say £250 -£300 would be closer to where the valuation would be at.

I also agree that the Auto ECU seems to be harder to come by than the manual variant. I could be reading too far into it, but perhaps there are more TT6 owners who have went with a Standalone ECU when going single.

Just a thought
