Your opinion of alcantara interior - how much would it cost

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a stock UK spec Supra, and just want your opinion on updating the interior to part alcantara. Of course it would not be all panels, that would be a bit too much I think.

Has anyone done it, just want to know how it would look.

Would this change be bad for the car's value given that it is now 100% stock including the exhaust?

You opinion would be much appreciated.

Alcantara looks great when new, after a year or so, awful. It wears out quickly if used in high traffic areas, needs regular vacuuming, regular cleaning with appropriate solutions and brushed to stay looking good and prevent matting.

U.K. Supra was all leather inside, I’d go with that if it were me. That said, it is your car. Do what you want. If you want to mod it, mod it.

Good point there, I was not thinking about the seats, just the dash panel and maybe door cards... I think that would look odd, especially with the beige leather?

Personally I think it looks pretty gash, I don’t understand the fascination with the stuff. Almost as bad a flocking. I would class door cards and dash panels as high traffic areas. They get rubbed against and constantly touched.

You have the complete beige interior then? Is it good condition?

For the dash panels I’d get the car to a bodyshop who can offer a professional colour match service using a Spectrophotometer and have them refurbished.

At the end of the day Slayer it's your car, but it sounds like 100% originality matters to you and therefor you'll probably best with leather.

My car is a work in progress and I don't give a damn about originality so my interior is being retrimmed (couple of bits left to do) and it was going to be all leather with grey stitching but I picked up some Recaro seats that were leather and alcantara so have gone with alcantara inserts on the retrimmed doors as well as the roof and visors.

Personally I'd say it looks anything but "gash" and far nicer than tired plastic/vinyl panels or old leather but each to their own.
