Proper use of automatic gearbox

Got question about proper use of automatic gearbox as done a little bit of research about it but there is So many opinions i dont know now which one is the right one. So you drive slowly to the lights stop it and have to wait for green to go do you

1. Hold on brake pedal till you can go

2. Put on Parking

3. Put on Neutral

Also red button on the top its only for release from parking?

How overdrive works and when you should use it or not

How manual mode works

Just want to make sure i will be using that gearbox as i should so it will last longer and all my previous and current Supras been manual. Thanks

When ever I pull up to lights , if just gone red I’ll pop into neutral otherwise I hold on brake ,time thing really

When I stop to park up I stop, handbrake on neutron to rest on hand brake the into park so as not to put strain on the small plate that holds it

Red button is to allow you to shift without ignition on

Mine the tiptronic so no overdrive button

Had my TT auto for 4 years and always left it in D at the lights, never had an issue.

Overdrive was always on ..only ever pressed the button to stop it going in 4th when I was flexing the right foot and going between 80 and 130mph (powerband for 3rd gear).

Thanks for all replys its all make sense now. I was asking about that what Gear you select if you waiting for lights as some says N should only be used for towing but im not sure if thats true

N is Neutral, as in not in gear, like a manual. Towing in neutral, you wouldn't get far :D I always leave the car in D and foot on the brakes at lights, if I know Im going to be stationary for a while Ill stick it in Park.

Manual mode, you've only got 3 gears and theyre pretty widely spaced so personally I find downshifting unpleasant.
