White Weapon - 2JZ Forged VVTi NA-T Build

A few weeks back my clutch pedal decided to stick to the floor after I'd reversed out the driveway.. something was wrong clearly so pushed it back in the driveway and the fluid was leaking out, the braided clutch line had split!

Wet weekends and being dark before I got back from work, this took 3 weeks to sort out 🤣. Local hose shops couldn't help or kept giving me fixed fittings instead of swivel and damaged olives. The original adapter fittings were extremely tight, it was a ballache and unnecessary. So after many hours of research I realised I needed a 90degree 3/8-24 to a M10x1 for the the Wilwood master cylinder to the BMW slave directly (usually BMW have a plastic line coming off it with a C-clip connection), custom one ordered from HEL, some bleeding and all was good again!

See how the HEL one is so much nicer from the original!

Then next day ..car won't start!

Put a battery pack on it, will crank and crank and crank then maybe start. This happened for about 5 or 6 starts over a week or two, then it just wouldn't start.. unless it was jump leads from another running car.

At the battery while running there was only 11.7 or maybe 12v, but that didn't make sense as it had the SRD 170amp big boy alternator and it just had a new battery

So today I jump started again and did this:

Screenshot_20211218-204215_WhatsApp.thumb.jpg.fc1aeae8af74fb606ba5177d7f93f3e9.jpg

It increased immediately to 13.8v!

So I went to Halfords and got a battery/earth lead for £6, hooked it up from the battery to the block, cleaned up all the grounds, sprayed electrical contact cleaner on the alternator plug and voila, 14.2v 🙂

9 months later, but finally got the KSports on the front this afternoon 😄

Still bedding in, but my gosh what a difference! The pedal is so much better and the bite is perfect, wish I done these alot earlier! FYI on Ferrodo DS2500 pads.

Wow almost a whole year since I updated this..

April: Completed another Banzai Rally without fault, I did have a hiccup of it 'hitting a wall' at 5k rpm but cleared after a minute or two and hasn't come back on since so all in all another 4 days of hard driving without a sweat!

June: K Sport rears have been fitted now and the braking is night and day difference!

July to November was spent enjoying the car! I bought all new suspension arms and after a bit of a queue the car was dropped off to SRD on Thursday just gone for them to replace all the arms, fit new Bilstein shocks and TT springs all round and investigate an oil leak which is hopefully something simples! After the alignment is complete it should stop trying to kill me! 😅

Also got my bike license recently and been messing around with the other Supras, RS4, RS6, Evos, 1JZ S14 etc! But the weather was great last year so had a blast driving around

But here's a few snaps!

Went to SRD today to pick up the car, what a difference!

The old arms were clearly no longer up to scratch, all the old bolts had to be cut out. But the car feels much tighter now and I have so much more confidence driving it. The new Bilstein shocks and TT springs work well, firm but still very comfortable.

Oil leak luckily was just cam covers and a weeping oil return line so an easy fix thankfully. Needed a new rad as the Whifbitz one had got partially blocked weirdly after a couple years and temps were rising above 95C, so new Koyo one installed and sitting at a happy ~83C. Glad they caught this now before summer!

Also had some map tweaking done on the dyno, I must have watched this 100 times now 😅

It's done 9,000 miles since it was originally mapped and still pulling as it did on day one - so overall a good result

Was stuck in traffic most of journey home so didn't get to play with the boost settings but on wastegate it hooked up well and squats nicely.

Roll on summer!

Cars been running okay for the last 6 weeks now when it hasn't been raining!

Having a weird misfire splutter that comes randomly for a few pulls then goes away usually at 5 or 6k rpm, very weird. It could be fine for 20 pulls then splutter for 20mins then be fine again. Also idles high 1800rpm when at a stop, if it idles fine then it behaves, when it splutters it sits at 1800rpm.

Noticed 2 wires need repairing, one on coilpack 1 and 5:

With new plugs it didn't fix the issue 😞

Then went to Brighton for Incarnation and it was hit and miss on the way down. But on the way home to SRD it was spot on, didn't miss a beat, Mike had a fiddle and went out for a drive and it pulled perfectly (typically!) while he was there. Got it home no bother.. other than an oil leak!

Oil return on the sump was leaking, M6 bolts were then drilled and tapped to M8

Not a bad job, drop subframe, steering rack/column and back together and running in 2.5 hours.

Wastegate pull

We are leak free! Was out all Saturday in the sun and it didn't miss a beat, then in the evening the splutter returned! 😫

So next plan is to change all the coilpacks and see if that fixes the issue, if that doesn't then I'll change all the spark plug connectors. Other than that I can't think of anything other then letting the SRD team tinker about and investigate, but hopefully we get it fixed before then! They have been super helpful so far in helping me get to the cause and looking at logs etc.

Forecast to rain all week so won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

On the plus side it was bucketing down with rain yesterday and the car held up fine traction wise on my drive home, was so surprised how it handled the wet without ABS and TC on the back roads and M1, was going past everyone. Just shows what a difference a new suspension setup and proper alignment can do!

End of year update:

3 years since now it was mapped!

Car is been great most of the time. Only major change was the car sounding like a Detroit V8 drag car, spluttering and being a weird, quick log check and Mike diagnosed it as a fault VVTi solenoid, so ordered a new solenoid and filter. Easy enough job, couple bolts and undoing the fuel rail inlet. So far so good 👍🏽 no more issues for now 🙂

In June for my birthday I got a Ferrari so spent a bit of time driving that around, sold my bike but will get another soon! Had a few other cars come and go in between including a 4.8 twin turbo Cayenne 500hp which was cool, then a Cayenne GTS 4.8 420hp which sounded mega.

Golf R and X6M (555hp) with me now but both for sale.

Supra still gets driven on a dry day, absolutely love taking it out and burning some fuel ⛽

Not too much to report on the Supra, been working fine! All it's had since the last VVTi solenoid is rear tyres. Michelin Pilot Super Sports!

Had a few more cars come and go - E92 M3, S2000, Audi S7, a couple other Supras, 520hp Evo, S3.

Sold the Ferrari last month but struggling to find something to replace it with.

I am currently in the midst of building a new house, so all the cars above had to go, so once the new build is finished and sold I'll get something nice again. Thinking a manual 996 turbo!

Only jobs for now on the Supra will be over winter and into Spring:

- Upper sump, the oil return has a weep when on high boost (I'm guessing more boost pressure increases the oil flow/pressure). But upto 1.4 bar it's fine, after that there's a little leak! I have a new GTE sump from Toyota, just need to get round to swapping it over!

- Respray! The paint has started to shrink in areas, some rust appearing on the roof line, bits of lacquer peel, the front bumper is more stone chipped than a rally car. But this will be done once the new house is built, sold and finances are back in order! I'm budgeting around £7k by the time it's all done for a good spray job. It was last sprayed from original red to white around 13/14 years ago when the car was probably worth £1000, so it's done well! Just needs to survive this winter!
