Markie
Just a question I was wondering about.. With my car and the decat's. Would a restrictor ring hold peak boost to around 1.2 BAR whatever the boost controller gets set to? Ie. With restrictor ring in, would the boost controller be able to say set the boost to like 1.5 BAR?
Steve
Yeah the ring would limit it to say 1.2bar. Then you could increase the boost with the controller. But wouldnt go to 1.5bar if you are on stock tubbies.
Markie
If the ring is limiting the boost then to 1.2 How could the boost controller raise boost even though the ring is restricting it to 1.2?
lovatt
because it tricks the car into thnking its not creating as much boost as it actually is
Steve
If you didnt have a boost controller and no ring the boost would go over the recommended 1.2 bar. So you fit the ring to stop this hapening. However you can then fit a controller which stops the pressure escaping thus creating more boost (i think).
Branners
If you have a hose pipe and turn it on half way the water runs as quick as it can, tread on the hose and the flow of water slows down even though the tap is still turned to the same limit. The restrictor is like treading on the hose, it reduces the diamater of the exhaust past which the air flow must pass. If you then turn up the tap to full while still treading on the hose the water will go quicker out the hose pipe as its pushing past the restriction. The boost controller is like the tap, it fools the engine in to pushing more air through which in turn goes past the restrictor and allows more boost. Just turn the tap up or down to get more pressure (boost) in the system. Thats a very simplified version and theres a lot more to boost pressure than that but it gives you an idea. Markie
I see.. So, just say I wanted to run more boost than 1.2. Would it just not be a better solution to remove the ring and then use the controller to limit the boost to say a wanted 1.4 instead of having the ring in there and using thre boost controller to up the boost so it goes to 1.4 past the ring.. Just thinking, removing the ring solution would give a better flow of exhaust gases etc?
Steve
A boost controller can not lower the boost. So you would not be able to limit boost without the ring. the controller can only raise boost
Clarkey
Get a Restrictor ring to limit boost to 1 Bar -for example-.. then use the ebc to raise it between 1 Bar ... 1.1 ... 1.2 Bar.
Markie
Ahh I see... Thought the boost controller could lower boost, just not lower it to below stock boost level.. Did not relise it could not lower boost at all, only raise it.. Anyone know then how to up boost on the Blitz controllers? All I got under boost menu is SET and GAIN.. Set is 55 Gain is 12 Any ideas? Thought it would be nice to me and have a setting saying boost limit, but no
Steve
i think you have to rasie the gain to up the boost on those

Markie
Thanks mate.. But I have the Blitz SBC id Boost Controller which seems quite a bit different..
Branners
concepts are pretty much the same... There was a thread in one of the older sections of the BBS where people listed their SBC-ID settings, might be worth hunting that down. JB
HunterJ
I think the concepts of gain and ratio (set?) are the same...would seem strange if Blitz changed there terminology...someone will hopefully follow with the "correct" user guide
Steve
Try this thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=4538&highlight=sbc-id+settings Not much to it but it might help
Branners
Might be worth giving this a look over... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=4547&page=1&pp=40 I also have the powermeter and SBCID manuals in PDF if that helps. (infact I managed to attach it to the thread listed above...)
