raddys
There’s a r8 v8 supercharged one up for sale on a well known website now. Looks very nice within you budget I know I've seen it, however I'm abit dubious about it as 90k is higher then I'd like, especially with a SC strapped on, wouldnt know what I was letting myself in for. I bet it would be quick as hell though. Ideally though I want a car with no more then 50k on the clocks
CBR
What about a C6 Z06? I've been looking at these recently, since the 911 will be too expensive if something goes wrong. Prices seem to be steady in our country. Lot of bang for buck. Great aftermarket support.
Big Mark
I've got a friend that's an estate manager whose boss had an Mk1 R8 V8. I went out in it a few times have to say I was rather disappointed with it.

I've heard they can suffer from carbon build up on the valves which can take as much as 100hp off the r8's already modest 415hp. Il compare my bpu supra against this r8 and report back lol
Swampy442
Comparing a Supra to an R8 is apples to oranges, completely different in style, intentions, age and layout, it's hardly a fair comparison.
Boyne
I see your auto and stock, you have mint supra similar to myself, have you thought of bpu or small single and putting a getrag in, or one those newer lexus automatic tiptronic?
supra_aero
I raced a v10 r8 recently and that thing was sensational! So fast and sounded amazing. One of the rare cars you go home after losing to and Google all you can find about them. I was that impressed. I was in the rx7. Speaking of which is a phenomenal car if you hadn't considered one. Apex seal s have come a long way since 1995.

I am already bpu, I suppose I'm just bored of supras, I have contemplated a single set up but when asking the big tuners im looking at 5 figures for a small single set up. I know everyone will say "you can do it alot cheaper doing it yourself, but I simply dont have the time/patience to piece together a complete turbo kit and sort it all out, my time is better spent working and paying for a drive in/drive out at a tuners but I dont want to sink a further 12k into the supra only to find out a few months down the line that I'm still bored of the car. Yes I can only imagine what a v10 r8 sounds like after hearing a straight pipe v8 r8 in person last night Have always loved rx7 but the reliability issues have always put me off
raddys
So I drove the r8 v8 manual last night, wow, it looks amazing, it sounds amazing it's very well built.. but.. its lacking something, and that's called mid range. I started it up, opened the exhaust, straight piped titanium exhaust, I have never heard something sound so evil, absolutely naughty sound, didnt expect it to sound so loud at all. I pulled away and the torque was pretty savage, upto 30-40 mph but then it was all abit slow if I'm honest, I took it to 100 and it didnt really have any urgency to get there. the supra is the other way round, it's slower off the line but once the twins have awoken it's just a train, relentlessly eating up the road. Dont get me wrong though, that just the nature of NA , the owner said you have to imagine it's a vtec, all your power is really at the top end. it got nicely tail happy when I planted it, but all in all I see why audi ended up going v10, the v8 just needed a little bit more pep in its step. Still though a brilliant car with handling that's leagues ahead of the supra imo Edited July 1, 2020 by raddys (see edit history)

Scooter
On a serious note, the Supra power delivery and amount is not really going to be beaten in the "wow this is a lot faster sense" by the NA engines at your price range. Have you tried the 911 turbo as the 911 you tried at the track may have affected you negatively too much and I suspect the turbo 911 will have a similar Supra shove and potentially be faster and give the wow factor in that sense (not looks for you though it seems?) That's not to run down the NA's you would adapt to the R8's more linear delivery and forget about the Supra and enjoy the drive/handling, they are just different. I've read before how our brain picks up changes in acceleration but accepts/is calmer about steady states and so these non linear big hit power cars tap into the excitement/fear part of us more naturally.....crazy over bland in our minds eye.... No I've not driven a 911 turbo just just a standard 911. Yer I just find the 911 996 abit marmite, I like it but I dont know if I love it, not like the r8 anyways, I think id be extremely happy with the r8 v10 but I'd have to save abit longer for that. Yes I know what you mean, I would adapt and eventually come to love the v8s characteristics and I've never owned a v8, it's on the bucket list lol I suppose I wait now to see a 911 turbo in person then I can make my mind up
