I’ve unfortunately not got a photo which shows it but it’s definitely on the firewall!

mwilkinson
So the inter web says that all cars in Australia, manufactured after 1st January 1989, require a 17 character VIN. Thus the Japanese chassis number won't be accepted for their registration process. Looks like you need to contact the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development who will provide you with the additional characters for your VIN which will be uploaded to thier NEVDIS database. At that point you can then seek to have the chassis number amended. I'm sure the above Department can advise on places where this can be done officially. All info in below link. https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/vins.aspx

I wonder if i get the plate welded to the chasis so its one with the car..the lady said the plate itself isn't allowed cause a screw driver can be used to remove the plate from underneath. Thoughts on welding the plate ?
mwilkinson
I suspect it will need to be stamped. Did you get this sorted?
