I don't envy your cleaning regime with a flocked dash, i expect it will be a nightmare to get dust out of it?

Hi mate,

No, it’s fairly straightforward according to the folks at Banbury Flocking. Airline most of the time (I got some compressed air canisters off Amazon) or  a damp cloth. They have had a flocked dash in a car for years, still looks as fresh as when they fitted it. 🙂

So had the Season Opening show for the GT Tuners Club on Saturday. Got a couple photos before the madness started, pleased to report car ran faultlessly with not a single stall/cut out so huge thumbs up to Mike and the team at SRD for getting that issue sorted. 👍

Did notice my disks aren’t illuminating after the dash swap, hoping it’s just a loose connection or plug that I didn’t plug in properly. 🤞

Car was on the M H Bodyworx stand and got a lot of likes and attention I’m told (I was busy getting burnt helping out with organising the show so didn’t get to speak to many people sadly).

Anyway hope you like the photos. 🙂

Hey Guys,

So not much to report in terms of meaningful updates unfortunately, share price is still on the low side so not selling those yet. Hopefully things pick up and I can sell 2 lots early next year for a good price, if so then it’s single conversion, fuelling upgrades, Hypertune intake manifold, 8-speed ISF gearbox conversion and rebuilt Lexus LS400 series 2 rear diff rebuilt with OS Giken internals. 🙂

Couple of photos from Saturday in the meantime.

Cheers for now.

Pete

Morning All,

Time for a small but important update. Some will know I had a bit of an issue with my wiring a couple of months back after fitting the new flocked dash. Basically the instrument cluster wasn’t lighting up when I turned on the headlights using the stalk. Figured maybe I’d forgotten to connect a plug or hadn’t pushed a plug in properly so I took it all apart and checked. Nothing obvious and I checked all of the solder points on the cluster itself, but nothing was burnt up or out of place. Next check was the fuse box in the drivers footwell and sure enough one of the 10A fuses had blown. Fitted a new fuse and tried again, still no joy and alarmingly I suddenly had smoke coming out from the footwell area and a nasty smell of burning wires. I quickly turned off the lights, ignition and disconnected the battery. I then checked the loom at the fuse box location in the drivers side footwell and found this. 😢

As a temporary fix I swapped out the new fuse which hadn’t blown oddly for the old one so in my mind I’d isolated the issue at least.

I had plans to install a new Clifford alarm as car came with a very old and dated Laserline system that was showing its age. Thankfully I met Shervin who has done a few Supra’s now and is a fellow owner and enthusiast. We talked through the options and settled on a Clifford Concept 650 mk3 being the latest unit with intelistart and the window closure module. I explained the issue with the dash cluster and he agreed to look at that for me as well. I also wanted to swap out the remote function for the front flip license plate and fit a switched version instead.

I drove the car to him which was Central London and a bloody white knuckle ride for me with all the hazards associated with driving in and around London, but I got there eventually. 😉

Left the car in his capable hands and got the tube back to London Bridge so I could catch my usual train home.

He started off with the alarm and ripped out the old system and set about fitting the new one. He was very thorough, talking me through points as he went and sending photos and updates each day along with a couple of videos which was a nice touch.

Next up was the wiring issue and cluster fault. What he found when he opened up the loom was frankly frightening for both of us. If you look closely at the photos you’ll see how it wasn’t just the ground wire that was damaged, other wires also melted due to the heat and it was a real mess. How the car ran still with no issues other than the cluster not illuminating is a mystery, think I was incredibly lucky.

Shervin agreed to clear his appointments (been doing car stereos, alarms and wiring for 25+yrs and is in my opinion one of the best in the business) and spent the next couple of days putting it right and replacing all the burnt wires for new and wrapping the whole loom. I know it took him an age but the end result is amazing and he didn’t pull my pants down whatsoever on cost given it was a lot more work than either of us had anticipated.

Alarm is now all done and wiring is all good and working spot on. Likewise flip plate is now switched and apart from some adjustments to stop it retracting when on the move (annoying isn’t the word) things are working spot on.

Collected the car after work on Tuesday night and drove back in torrential rain which around the North Circular was real brown trouser stuff, but I took it really slow and got home safe in the end.

Huge shout out to Shervin and I can’t recommend him enough for all things wiring or alarm/stereo related. Lovely chap who being a Supra owner and enthusiast knows what he’s doing and doesn’t exploit you like other car Sparky’s I could name that charge the earth but don’t know our cars whatsoever.

Car should be at Brands for Go Japan on Sunday 25th September so keep an eye out if you’re there and come say hello. 🙂

Car is due a service with SRD on Monday 26th and they are going to also swap my battery out for a new Exide Premium 005 to replace the frankly tiny J-Spec battery. Will need to fit larger terminals, but will be well worth it in my view.

Hoping funds will be there next year so I can get on with the bigger stuff like the gearbox swap, new diff setup, single conversation and fitting the beautiful Hypertune intake manifold. Also the new fuelling setup which Lee thinks will solve the cold start issue that is still not working properly. Does mean the intelistart doesn’t work for now as car cuts out still when it tries to drop the idle, so won’t be using that feature till it’s all sorted.

oha, madness, madness, what a wiring, lucky that it didn't burst into flames and very good that you found such a reliable person to fix it......, better always have something like this done by a professional, otherwise it can get very nasty

Completely agree and Shervin is a real expert who did an amazing job for me. Can’t thank him enough as it was a real mess that most people would have run away from the moment they saw how bad it was. He just rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in. I am extremely lucky it didn’t cause a fire which after all the effort and hard work getting the car sorted body wise would have been devastating. 😞

Luckliy it’s all sorted now and everything is working as it should. 👍

Melted wires, that's worrying 😟

More worrying than the ex calling to tell you she's pregnant 😂

Lol, surely that depends on whether the baby is yours or not? If not then that could be a relief as she is someone else’s headache and they are locked in for at least 18yrs of hell. 😉

Hi Peter. I am thinking about buying the Zenith jacking pucks to not worry about bending the sills everytime 😅 are you still happy with them qualitywise? Thank for input 🙂

Hi mate.  Funnily enough I used them only the other day and have to say they are holding up really well. Even the MOT tester I used complimented them and said he’d seen them before on Skylines but not a Supra. They do the job and protect the sills so I’m still happy with my purchase. I know some weren’t so convinced, but it’s a personal choice at the end of the day. Put it this way my sills are still nice and straight and I’ve not had any issues with the pucks or clearance etc. 👍 😉

Hope that helps.

Cheers for now.

Pete 🙂

Hey Folks,

More of a garage update, thanks to Elite Modular Flooring I now have my awesome Swisstrax floor fitted. Finishes the garage so well in my opinion. Few shots empty, with the Supra back inside and with all my garage units and equipment that had to go in our dining room much to Mrs. P’s annoyance! Lol.

Been a long day hampered by rain but it’s looking the part now at least. If anyone is looking to get their garage floor done let me know as Elite can hook you up with a discount as well. 👍
