Why does everyone have problems with Thor? I'm needing my Emanage Ultimate set up and I intend to go back there. They were worth their weight in gold last time I was there. Ok their rollers may not be exact but the way people talk about em somethings obviously gone a miss

No one has problems with Thor.. they just hate the idea of a Ford engine in a Supra

I must admit that although I think the idea is fantastic and I am a little green eye I do have a hard time with a Ford part in a supra . Come on Ford of all the V8's it had to be a ford .....grrr i hate ford....could not have used a Toyota V8 no ? or even a Hemi, just not a Fooooooooooooord. OK it's a hela of a lot lighter so it will handle better but a ford ...see the theme. for doing something different though stops the boredom setting in, and lets be honest no one is doing nothing new that hasn't been done in the supra world before over here.

Ford V8 is sold, We have a Twin Turbo 4.7 V8 Lexus motor spec'd up for this job. We are going to be offering Lexus V8's for W58's as an upgrade for NA owners (MK3 and MK4). Twin Turbo versions on the Getrag 6 for TT and a full on Thor Spec Billet PowerGlide or TH400 with optional gear vendors gear splitter for overdrive and trans brake for proper launches on MT's etc. We will also be doing Thor Spec 6 linked 9" Ford axle subframe conversion for the serious drag racers. The last 3 come with a carbon fibre prop in the kit as standard (proper F1 spec 3000nm twist shear not US crap).

Maybe I should sell the VVTi and keep the NA!!

What (very rough) estimate of £££'s are we talking for the engine, ancillaries and labour?

Would it mate to an auto box ok?

Should do, they are auto to start with and I'd imagine they are similar, if not the same, autobox. Having not done one yet it's hard to give a rough estimate on price. The engine in NA form for a 1UZ 4 litre is about £750 you then need a Link XLEM ECU to control it at £650 which will aslo need the loom making ECU side at about £350 to £400).Then there is the labour in actually fitting it and joining the two bits together which is a bit of a question mark in terms of cost. I would say about £3500 -> £4000 ball park with the VAT.

would we see a benefit from lower weight of the unit?

im not going to ever be using 'sticky mickies' dont fully know what they are tbh!

I doubt you would see much in the great scheme of things. Obviously £800 -> £1000 is bit of a price to pay for saving 10kgs. I can do you a set of AutoClaved carbon fibre doors, tailgate & bonnet (all double skinned) that save about 100kgs which are better value for money @ £4500 :D

Stick Mickey's are Micky Thompson drag radials, basically a street legal drag tyre.

when i said lower weight i meant as in less inertia to accelerate. not that the prop shaft moves THAT fast, but im sure you might...possibly....know what im talking about

I can't see it making any noticable difference. I'm sure the septics might make up jackonorys like this to flog product but not me. My principle goal for this product is torsional twist and torque handling. That is the only reason I'd sell one to a customer anything else is just pub yadda.

That'd be about what I'd expect. Good stuff for NA owners!

From what I've just read you'll only get about 280 bhp in NA form from 1UZ. Is that right as you'd expect more from 4 litre V8?

I guess the real fun (and expense) comes with the turbos.

Good luck with the conversion, sounds like a more straight forward job than the Ford route anyway.

:yeahthat: A propshaft doesn't have the diameter to contribute much to the drivetrain inertia. A CF shaft will be a lot lighter, stiffer and much less prone to whirling than a traditional steel one, though.

What surprises me is that the engine only costs £750. I mean, how? A 2JZ shortblock appears to cost around £2000, with similar amounts for the head too. Is it simply economies of scale given that the American market loves v8s?
