Tiptronic Guys who have done a paddle conversion

In the process of trying to test fit paddles.

All 4 buttons share Yellow, am I right to assume this will be the common live/pos? Or anyone know better than my assumption?

The Shift Up buttons share a Blue and Red second cable, 1 goes either way to complete the Up circuit.

The Shift Down buttons share a Black and White cable, 1 goes either way to complete the Down circuit.

Trying to test fit some Paddles which run 3 cables, so need to test fit to ensure I can run them off of 2. Assuming that Red is positive, Black is negative and Grey is Earth

On the 2 wire paddles the wire colours are irrelevant, as all they are doing is completing a broken circuit.

I would imagine your 3 wire ones work the same way, but with a separate trigger wire going to a seperate module in the car. You will need to probe the wires on your 3 wire paddles with a multimeter to establish what does what, unless you have access to a wiring diagram for the car they are from.

No continuity between any of the cables on the paddles once the paddle is engaged, so I imagine they're not going to be useable with the wiring already in place.

I suppose once you know the Tiptronic runs a simple open and closed circuit it's common sense to check the paddles this way.

Hindsight and all that haha

I copied Jays idea using Merc AMG paddles. I mounted mine on a Gen 6 Celica steering wheel.

If memory serves me right it was dead easy to do but they were only 2 wire paddles.

Jay has already posted and is knowledgeable with this. It's so long ago I will have to look back.

Be great to do a build thread on this showing which products used and maybe links to specific items

Bit like a shopping list

Watching with interest

I did, on my build thread. :) sadly Photobucket ruined it.

On a tiptronic car it's easy, as all the wiring etc is already there. You can replace the steering wheel with a cheap alternative from a gen7 celica or similar vintage is200 or mr2, which deletes your factory tiptronic buttons, and swap the wiring over from your tiptronic wheel.

Then you just need suitable paddles. After much research, I settled on the smaller AMG paddles as they looked OEM and worked on a 2 wire system.

These are the ones I used.

They require a bit of trimming to the back of the wheel to make them sit flush. Once done and installed, they look factory.

For such a small thing, they make a big difference to the way the car drives
