Recommended Posts

hi guys, hope your all well, i have just recently got my car back to a road legal condition, been puting some miles on her to to see what issues will present themselves, its been under front end restoration for a couple years, anyhow, the power steering cooler pipework has sprung a leak along the front in front of the ac rad, i'm not going to attempt to purchase a new one off Toyota as id decided to upgrade it , here are my 2 options, a 13 row off whifbitz (£246) with braided hoses or 7 row off future Motorsports without braided hoses (£139).

which one do i buy?

any help is appreciated.

thank you

Dean

Thanks suprakeith, that's a good option, i notice its a different manufacturer, unlike the other 2 options which are Setrab. do you think this will matter much?

I don’t think matters one bit, and have had quite a few bits from SRD and not any problems with quality at all

Why would you upgrade it if it's not leaking? Genuinely curious what additional benefits this would bring?

Too improve cooling and to future proof as currently on the final stages of my monster forged na-t build, and everything else has been upgraded to keep everything at safe operating temps

I've had mine running a 10 row Mocal cooler mounted where the stock SMIC goes for years now. No trouble at all, except it must have taken a stone strike recently and started leaking. Couple of lengths of -6 JIC will push straight onto the stock metal hoses. Easy.

Track use, been on few track days and it’s got very hot so going to get biggest cooler can fit in location with intercooler pipework..better to have as much cooling as possible

How did you know it got too hot? How did it affect the car? There are members on the forum who use their cars on the track competitively and perhaps more often than you do, yet despite this, they don't use a power steering cooler. So I'm not quite sure what added benefit this would bring over the standard set up. Perhaps a brake fluid cooler would make more sense?

Because it boiled over and was coming out resovoir, and it’s all down to personal choice I think, I’ve spent ton of money on engine build and set up and am upgrading everything to make sure it’s all as reliable as possible and up to the task

That looks nice and tidy, but doesn't the rad need supporting from both sides? If it's only supported at one side then it may flex or at least get stressed and eventually split...I'd think about fabricating a bracket to reach over to the outside edge, or drop down some threaded rod from the panel overhead to create a support.
