erachter
Hi all, I have a weird vibration in idle 700-800 RPM, which goes away instantly after going to 1000 RPM and above. I am thinking these are the engines mounts. My question is which ones do I need(facelift mounts or pre-facelift mounts) since the car is a 1996 facelift 2JZ-GE non-VVTI W58? Thanks
mwilkinson
Could easily be the engine mounts. You'll almost certainly have the facelift engine mounts on your engine. I've the same 1996 transition period car and mine have the facelift mounts. It should be quite easy to identify. The pre-facelift metal mount bracket is quite short, with the actual bush / cushion being quite large and long. The facelift is the opposite with the metal mount brackets being quite long and the bush / cushion being short.
Scooter
http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?349699-Do-I-have-facelift-engine-mounts-on-my-1995-TT&highlight=facelift+mounts Some pics here, the squash rubber at the base of the mount shouldn't be squashed but should have a gap. If yours look anything like that then I'd change them (on an NA this is not too bad especially the drivers side)
erachter
Thanks all, they are the facelift ones indeed. Just ordered the W58 mount and looking for facelift mounts, if someone knows where I could get some from UK that would be greatly appreciated. rider
Reads to me more likely an issue with the flywheel and or clutch out of balance or that you have an issue with the front crank pully breaking down which is another common problem with the ceramic belt drive becoming brittle with age and then falling apart. What combination of flywheel.clutch do you have and when were they lase inspected/replaced? Also, have a look and feel around the crank pulley as well as you dont want your belts to start slipping. You can do a tipex test on your pulley.
erachter
Thanks, will do a tippex test on on the pulley. Stock clutch and flywheel, did not have it replaced/inspected in a long time.
Scooter
The 5 speed W58 gives no real flywheel noise like the getrags in my experience. it sounds like classic mounts, if you had a nice padded jack (or scissor jack and pad) and took a smidge of weight off the mounts by jacking on the sump you'd probably hear the vibration note change or disappear altogether if you wanted to be 100% sure. Tippex test worth doing, never hurts to have a mark on it so you can visually inspect going forward.
Swampy442
Can you feel the engine moving about? Auto or manual?
erachter
Can you feel the engine moving about? Auto or manual? Manual W58, I wouldnt say I feel it moving, and it disappears completely after 1000RPM. It is more like a smooth vibration, no knocking sounds. I tried making a video, but you can't hear anything in it unfortunately.
Mike2JZ
It's super common to see Facelift 2JZ engine mounts make vibration on idle (sub 1000rpm), regardless if its manual or auto, NA or TT. Just replace with a new set of facelift engine mounts and will fix problem. Prefacelift engine mounts & brackets do not suffer with this problem. Swampy442
Could be the gearbox mount too
erachter
Got the crankshaft pulley checked today and its on the way out too.. Engine mounts are shut too, so ordered new engine mounts, gearbox mount, crankshaft pulley and a belt. Thanks all for the info!
