Pudsey
Dear All, As with many I fully expect, browsing the classifieds is a daily routine at present. Always liked 911's, some say the least desirable variant is the 996. What's people's thoughts on this one. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202001306744725?make=PORSCHE&sort=distance&radius=1500&postcode=pl36sp&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&advertising-location=at_cars&page=5 Has anyone had any experience with these. Cheers
Scooter
I don't know much but I'm pretty sure the turbo engines are pretty bulletproof and avoid the issues the non turbo engine models suffer from which can mean expensive rebuilds.
jamesmark
Wheeler Dealers done a program on the 996. Cannot recall if it were a turbo or not, but as Scooter has said engine can go bad due to a small part located around engine/clutch. It is a well known 996 fault. Can’t recall if it were turbo or not though. 997 is a nicer looking variant if your budget can stretch to that.

That sounds pretty good then engine wise. Wheeler Dealers done a program on the 996. Just thought it seemed a good buy, compared to other prices.
Mo Reviews
I don't have any personal experience of the 996 specifically, I do however know someone who had a 996 Turbo S and he spent more time under it, than in it. Besides, I'm not a fan of the 996 omelet headlights.

Mo Reviews
Ha that doesn’t sound good. I don’t think the headlights look that bad, with the facelift yoke missing. The rest of the car is fine, it's just the damn headlights... I don't know what possessed the designers. Oh, perhaps it's the same thing that has recently possessed them to make all their new cars look the same with that silly unibrow taillight look! raddys
One of my mates had a manual 996 turbo before his big hks twin supra, he now has a lambo lp 550 but still says his 996 was a Brilliant car and would destroy most cars in sight with only a small tune.. I personally love them and like all cars you will get the shit ones out there but most are very reliable. I also think it was the only time Porsche really deviated from their iconic headlight design so in time I'm expecting them to become the "rare" unicorns that dont get so much intrest now but in the future become the Porsche that dared to be different, I'd say they have hit their base price now and can only go up from here (without corona factors thrown in)

I had been looking for months like you do, and keep going back to it. Terrible situation at present for everyone that’s for sure. With being really unwell myself starting to believe we got to live life, not navigate a way through all the time perhaps. NB. Was it an auto or manual he had. (Manuals seem a lot more expensive). Yes tbh mate it's one of my favourites too, that and a r8 v8 manual but they are only on par with a bpu supra so not much of a power upgrade, but they do drive, look and sound amazing imo. Yes the manuals are more expensive but in a world of automatics I believe they will hold their money as the more desirable car. Dont get me wrong though, the auto 996 turbo is probably just as good. People will always say "oh it's got to be manual if it's going to be involving and fun" but I think you only need a manual in a lower powered sub 300bhp car, any more bhp and I find auto/paddle shift just as fun as a manual box, everyones different though Hope you get better soon and yes mate if you want something in life just do it, were here for a good time, not a long time. Many thanks. Yes, I went through Supra's from an auto RZ-S Tip, to a 6 speed RZ, back to a RZ-S Tip. I personally prefer the tiptronic, but do occasionally miss the experience of the manual as they are a beasts.
