rg500
I am refurbing my split rims and wondered which is the best way to reseal them as I don’t want to have any leaks and have unreliable wheels on the car, Has anyone been successful in resealing the split rims. Thank Tony.
Dnk
Pretty easy to do to be honest Once we had assembled my 3 piece Work Equips and torqued all the nuts & bolts up we popped each wheel on the tyre/wheel balancing machine. Then whilst rotating the wheel by hand slowly filled the area where the pieces meet with something like tiger seal, then rotated the wheel again by hand and using something like a cake spatula smooth over the sealer, i think we used the top edge of a plastic cup to start with as it smoothed out the sealer nicely. Leave to set before fitting the tyres Never had a problem with leaks I've arrowed the area we filled with sealer Edited April 17, 2020 by Dnk (see edit history)

rg500
They are auto strata Modena two 5 spoke light weight wheels which came with the car when it was imported from Japan in 2002 so they are quite old but look nice all polished up. Dnk
Are these a 2 piece where the centre piece bolts to one outer piece ? or 3 piece like mine ? Edited April 17, 2020 by Dnk (see edit history)

Dnk
They are 3 piece split rims. So they have a similar section like mine and if so just do what i did, you dont need a wheel balancer but that just made it real easy to apply the sealer, you could fit the wheel to a front hub with it on full lock and use that to rotate the wheel on
Noz
I've been advised by lots of peoples to use bathroom sealant. Due to being moisture repellent. Has been great so far. Not that its seen huge amount of rain
Dnk
We did my wheels in 2008 and i sold the car in 2013 with no issues during that time This is what Ibrar uses now, Starcher PU sealer http://www.movacshop.com/product/wbox-pu-sealer-821/ Edited April 17, 2020 by Dnk (see edit history)
