Camber settings

Hi All

Ok so I finally managed after basically rebuilding my Supra underneath and having my engine rebuilt to achieve BPU today with the HKS EVCVI being fettled in by a tuner. The car is superb but I have a couple of questions that I am sure other owners have come across at BPU I need help with. I'll post them separate so here goes for this one:

I was spending so much having my underside fabricated and repaired professionally I thought what the hey ets get a new rear sub frame as its similar cost to trying to find all the parts and bushes that disintegrated under restoration for my car, and I managed to get one with adjustable suspension. The mechanic says my car would benefit hugely in terms of grip from a little camber etc, does anyone know what settings are best front and back? I'm running on 18 inch wheels (275/35/18 and 235/35/18) and I agree beyond 120 or so it does need some adjustment handling wise as it starts to feel a bit sketchy. Any settings help you can give would be most helpful. I also have adjustable shockers set to mid setting (8) maybe they need stiffening down to 4 or so? I am a complete dumbo and I assume there is a tried and tested settings list for this level of power and set up?

You can google "lance" settings for the Supra too, they have some mixed feedback....
Lance setup requires a certain setup to be successful. I had mine setup by Black Boots in Buckinghamshire, was worth the drive to have it done properly! They recommended me the lance setup, as I was on 18inch wheels and poly bushed throughout, plus on coilovers with aprrox 20mm drop in running height.

After the setup was done the car felt completely different, it was like night and day.

If you want geometry done properly get yourself and your car booked into see Chris Wilson for a bespoke setting. Well worth the time.

He sets every car up the traditional way rather than trying to fudge specific settings to fit the car. With the lance settings expect the car to squirm a lot more in the front and as for the "turn in" characteristics :taped:

There is an excellent overnight accomodation close to Center Gravity to at Abbey Farm Bed and Breakfast. Massive rooms and inexpensive and the son absolutely loved my Supra, way more than what all the Porsche owners visiting Center Gravity usually park up there. They spent 5 hours fettling with my setup which shows their level of commitment and the transformation made it very good value for money. I was so impressed I even left a nice review on Google Maps.

My TT6 Mk4 Supra had a complete overhaul with new OEM suspension arms, struts, wheel bearings, frame bushes, drop links, track ends, roll bars etc. etc so it was time to get it all set up properly.

I arrived at CG just ahead of the appointed 08:30 and the father and so-in-law team of Peter and Chris turned up a little ahead of schedule to.

After a cuppa the car was taken for a lengthy test drive and Peter diagnosed all the adjustments that would be required from running various speed and road condition tests. Aside from the skitty steering feel and wayward movement of the car over bumps he also picked up something I hadn't that the nearside rear was planting less power than the offside rear.

After the run there was then 4 hours on the ramp optimising the toe, camber and caster. I elected to go for the Grandad Tourer settings so the car was given minimal toe to maximise the rubber contact and I also said I preferred heavier steering with better self centring so the caster was set higher than OEM spec at 4 degrees. Then back into the car first as a passenger and the ride comfort was transformed with bumps now just lifting or dropping the car rather than moving it sideways as before and when I drove it the steering feel was fully restored.

Once all the adjustments had been made the cars ride height was good across the car and all four sides were 10mm lower than the stock new settings (probably due to the Toyota Bilstein shocks allied to a touch less toe than stock). The weight distribution was within spec so no shimming of the dampers was required.

In all I was there for 5 hours. Well worth the money for anyone with a poorly aligned car or anyone wishing to set a car up more for cornering over straight line comfort if using the car on tracks or thrashing around lanes.

Can the mkiv be fully adjusted in stock form, or are there set front camber bolts etc.

/QUOTE]

Fully adjustable.

If they've never been touched you might find the eccentric adjusters are seized

and are impossible to remove, they will need to be cut and require at the least new

bushes being fitted to the suspension arm, or replace the suspension arm
