Shane34
Hi guys What's the general opinions on these boxes from the USA. Been advised these are good and obviously you can replace parts. Anyone got a real world experience? Would love to buy the 6 speed getrag v160/v161 but personally just don't see a 20+ year old box worth the risk, even if they are bullet proof. Can people even repair these now if there are no new parts being made?
drift_bear
There’s only 2 in the uk that run them iirc, fosta on here is one of them. Might be worth dropping him a pm
Style
There's a Supra for sale in my neck of the woods with a T56 magnum fitted. From what I understand, it's an awesome box to rip through gears with. But the slower, pottering around takes a bit of getting used to. But that's the nature of a box built for racing. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra-big-single-turbo-6-speed/153830713183?hash=item23d106675f:g:UtgAAOSw48ZeRGDw Edit: Same person as Alex has mentioned, fosta
AC93
Yeh Fosta and Scott have T56 boxes fitted, both of them have said it's the best choice... probably be my next step if my 6 speed M3 box ever goes pop!
Noz
The standard T56 isnt built for racing specifically. I know Grannas racing beef it up. But I didnt think it was a racing box from birth. Due to its reliability. Personally I think it would give a Supra the value a v160 would. A OEM 6 speed is nice. But they do fail or wear in some cases. A T56 comes with 700 ft lb warranty!! With synchros not even available for the v160 it's on a limited life span now.

I think it's just uprated components over the standard really

Noz
You wont get much change from 10k for box clutch and bell housing to fit it. Plus import duty. Grannas can supply with fitment items for diff and bellhousing you will just need to source sing to manual items. Pedals etc
