CX Racing NA-T Manifolds?

Hey guys,

Just browsing the internet as I'm looking for different NA-T options before i make the leap. Has anyone heard of CX Racing and their 11 gauge T4 manifolds?

I'm torn between XS power and the whifbitz log style, and this manifold doesn't look too bad. I'm trying to make a reliable setup that i can slowly upgrade over time. I'm only going for 350hp due to having the w58, hence why Im not spending the money on the manifold at this moment.

Any info/experiences would be great.

Not sure if the CX ones are braced now.. but they used to crack and had thin flanges.

I'm currently going NA-T. Just decided to do it once and forget about it, so I bought a Walton Motorsport manifold, 10mm thick flange and built for my turbo, stunning piece of metalwork.

A few people have made good power on this manifold or the similar XS Power one. You may need to modify it in one way or another though. I've heard of the flanges needing re-faced as they weren't flat. But that's not to say yours will be the same. Noz made 600hp on one which isn't to be snuffed at.

One thing I will say is that you'd be best chopping off that wastegate flange when you get it and have a V-Band flange fitted that will let you fit a brand name wastegate. The cheap, Chinese crap that have that flange are notorious for failing and, along with the cheap oil lines they also sell, should be avoided at all costs.

I've got the Whifbitz manifold and it's done everything I've asked of it so far. The noise does let it down though imo. It really robs the car of a 2J single turbo sound you'd be used to hearing. I'm going to be pushing the boost on my setup in a few months and I reckon the manifold will be the bottleneck with excessive backpressure and EGT's. That will likely be somewhere in the 500's so if you can deal with that power cap and a bit of a strange sound on WOT, I'd say go for it.

Have you got any videos of yours on boost? id be interested to hear. I think it's going to be the best option going log for my budget.

Unless you're going for 1000hp or money isnt an option I dont see the value in spending the earth on a manifold.

Admittedly I modified mine so it needed a skim on the flange. I rotated my wastegate outlet so it sat next to the turbo. Then I cleaned up any internal welds and smoothed inside best I could.

I manufactured an adaptor for the 4bolt to vband allowing me to run a 60mm turbo smart wastegate. I opened up the bore size to match the 60mm wastegate entry point. Whifbitz words were I had rock solid boost control which he was surprised at being a low end manifold.

I braced it and one I did have a small crack which was easily welded. Distortion caused the crack from the huge rotation on the WG outlet tubes I believe.

I run 22psi on a 62mm turbo with no problems. The manifold cost me less than a tyre and yes I see value in thick wall and thick flange manifolds but I can repair mine and save myself hundreds if not thousands on a manifold and I'm not limited to horsepower (currently).

500ish is the log manifolds limit. I see 603hp and ran 417hp for 4 years without any issue. I cant recall my EGT when at 417hp as my gauge is disconnected but I remember them being sensible and i only had a piggy back ECU then.

Style im surprised you blame the manifold for lack of turbo noise. I've never heard that before! But it would make sense.

Yes maybe top end manifolds have improved flow. But on a road car in a non race situation is it really going to be that critical. Personally I couldn't afford to invest in the manifold because that money to me, didnt warrant enough of an improvement (to myself anyway).

My advice to anyone buying new. Is you will pay a lot of money for a pretty looking manifold. But prioritise what's important. If you CAN afford to. Get the best. A repair would be a ball ache. But it could happen on any manifold to be fair.

But many cheap manifolds haven't failed. So it's your choice.

I'd stick with tubular if you're making the kit yourself though. Go for log for a purchased full kit or for spool. Not just for cost. Personally.

Here's a couple of clips from Santa Pod a few years back. Page 5 of my project thread has a clip as well. Some people quite like the sound it makes but it just sounds nothing like a 2J to me

Yeah dude, it's the same with TT singles on log mani's as well. I can still hear the turbo, it's more the engine note is a lot lower and doesn't really come alive up the rev range either. Josh noticed it as well:

I'm pretty sure a tubular mani would be a huge improvement. I'll definitely make the change eventually

Really interesting.

I have an OCDworks T51R modded turbo, their 6251R. So there's no friggin way anyone's not going to hear mine :D I wonder what a T51R mod would sound like on a log manifold.

I like the noise of it Style, although I do understand what you mean. I think I may go for that then as I don’t plan going over 500 for now.

What turbo setup are you running? The s360 that comes with the kit? Oh and what ecu:)

It'll do the job just nicely then :)

Yeah I'm running the Whifbitz kit mate so the S360 with an ECUMaster EMUBlack which has just been fitted. I was on AEM before that which worked fine until I wanted to ditch the distributor
