ellis
. . polishing/waxing cloth to use? I've got all the Meguiars stuff to use ready for the weekend (shampoo, polish and carnuba wax) but whats the best polishing/waxing cloth to use? I've got the Meguiars Terry cloth but I reckon thats just for drying isn't it?

ellis
Can you get em from Halfords and the like - what type are they?
Bobbeh
Ellis, they're good, but as he said they come apart easy, you can get them in Halfords in packs, but they are quite expensive for rags Its worth picking up some microfiber cloths, they work really well at picking up dust and polish dust from the bodywork. VELOCITY
When i went to a car show earlier this year the bloke on the meguiars stand told me the best cloth to use was just a normal towel???

tbourner
When i went to a car show earlier this year the bloke on the meguiars stand told me the best cloth to use was just a normal towel??? For washing, not for polishing (well it might be OK but that's not what I've been told to use them for). You MUST clean the towel after each wash though. Sharpie
I use the Autoglym cloths, there really good. although sometimes break apart easily... and put bits of cloth all over your car which, can be a PITA - they do brush off easy mind but, still made me swap them out for others. I have heard that old bath towels can be used for polishing as they are nice and soft..... Why do people always talk of elbow grease, sounds like they are using too much polish on their car to me.... tbourner
And buff off (oo-err) in straight lines and NOT circles - don't believe all that karate kid nonsense!!
Jspec Germany
When i went to a car show earlier this year the bloke on the meguiars stand told me the best cloth to use was just a normal towel??? I'm a huge proponent of microfiber. Definitely apply/remove in straight lines, turning the towel regularly. If you drop your applicator on the ground, it has to be washed before reuse (common sense but you'd be surprised how many people just blow the dirt they can see off and keep going). I use hot water and a soft bristle tooth brush for this brushing from the middle outwards towards the edges. If you're going to use a normal bath towel, make sure it's 100% cotton and don't let the seams of the towel touch your paint, they can cause small scratches. Somewhere on this forum there's a link to the meguiars video tutorial, which I found to be a wealth of knowledge. I'll see if I can find it.
