Very excited as we both thought Firefly was a criminally under-rated show and have heard nothing but good things about this film. RedM Posted October 6, 2005 Author Share Posted October 6, 2005 ....and the verdict is that it is good. Very good. Possibly the best sci-fi movie I've seen in many, many years. The effects look more natural, and therefore better, than the efforts of George Lucas and his Star Wars fiasco. Some great funny moments, a couple of unexpected moments, high tension, some great fight scenes, lots of Reavers (EEEK!) and they manage to fit the necessary exposition in without being heavy-handed. Oh, and if you've seen Firefly and were frustrated at only getting hints of what River can do, well, you will get what you've wanted. I wanted to jump up and go 'f*cking A, River' at one point. I was a huge fan of the animated shorts that were on MTV. Sadly Charlize Theron doesn't wear the original Flux outfit. The DOOM movie looks fun. Loving the first person perspective action. Just like the game. Lastly, Into the Blue. Shite looking film but Jessica Alba in a bikini for most of the flick. What could be better than that? Some great wedgie shots too. It was about a group of sumgglers types who traveled around the galaxy in a Firefly class ship called Serenity. It was typically well written with lots of character development and back story. Plenty of great one-liners too. Sadly, the network inf the US (Fox, i believe) didn't know how to market it. The launched the series with ep3 and ended it early with the season opener FFS! Some episodes never aired and can only be seen on the DVD box set. Serenity (the movie) is Whedons attempt to tie up the loose ends while making a film that could be viewed on its own.
