mos
Has anybody removed their viscous fan and fitted an electrical one instead, The reason i ask is my viscous shroud is damaged and caused my car to overheat at the m5/m6 interchange. It might be cheaper to fit an electrical unit instead of buying a shroud and its less things for the belt to drive then as well. If anybody has what size did you use and any overheating problems

Wez
There is a thread here with some info in it :- http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=5503&highlight=electric+fan Here are the search results :- http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=47337&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending
Chris Wilson
It'll be cheaper to fix the stock shroud, the engine driven fan is LARGE, moves a LOT of air, and is properly ducted, an equivalent electric one will be expensive, maybe even inadequate in certain conditions. Keeping the shroud for the A/C supplement fan AND fitting a shrouded adequately sized electric one could be tricky. You'd be surprised how much air the stock one moves withe the viscous engaged on a hot engine at 4000 RPM, far more than an electric could manage without about a 3HP motor, which would be enormous. mos
SORRY didnt do a search big mistake and i hold my hands up to it. Well its all a bit confusing some people have had no snags and yet some people have had a few. I was thinking of fitting the fans direct to the radiator as i dont have a seperate A/C fan. However what chris has said makes good sense, if the car overheated with a bit missing from the shroud then it must move a super amount of air. Steve W
Martin F's got 2 on his..... YES, makes getting to T-Belt etc MUCH easier... but, as Chris says Martin's TWO probably still don't move as much as ONE viscous (it IS big.... ooh err) Suprisingly, I find with the original viscous, the Soop STILL warms-up VERY quickly, even on Winter mornings... AND THAT is the MAIN reason for going electric....to make warm-ups quicker (and use less power when no cooling is needed)
