jongilly
Hi all.. im jonathan.. had a car accident in 1993 ended up using a wheelchair... been a member before .. forgot my login details.. owned my first supra in 2000, pre fandf, which had 20k miles and totally standard.. owned my second in 2005 which i decatted and fitted with a hks ti carbon, air filter etc and 3 piece 18" wheels, forget the make. Then i was then lost in the wilderness, owned rb320,, vwr32, porsche 911 c4s, audi r8, nissan r35's then lambos, ferrari's, aston martins I feel having experienced alot of cars, the supra came calling back, i dont know exactly why. I cant put my finger on it. So i looked for another uk spec supra auto, which i found at h and h auctions in duxford in march 2018, i went with a trailer and my toyota surf ( maybe im a secret toyota lover lol), it was a black 1owner car, never a demo, the guy was 55 when he bought it, now 80... so he was reducing his collection, it had done 130k miles, recent respray in factory black, afew issues on the mot history, but no show stopper. Alast i never, took enough money and got out bidded. I was so mad that in my frustration driving home, i blew the engine on my surf But then in october 2018, the winning bidder put the car up for sale on ebay, we talked, discussed. And then having the car inspected by fensport, we struck a deal. I was over the moon, being the car was born in 1993, and i having a life changing accident in the same year and ending up a pararplegic and a wheelchair user for life, we had a bond Like all uk spec supras of this age, rust is an issue, i used the car afew times, ran great, oil stem issues on startup, suspension abit loose, interior abit worn.. i decided to do a full restoration on it. So far i have spent 17k on top of the purchase price, loads of parts arriving from amayama each week, nuts bolts, bits and bobs. The rust was an issue, having been jacked up incorrectly on the seem, and then split and damaged, water did its toll. The driver side cills has been restored, 60hours of stripping and fabcrication and spraying , with parts from keron in Leicester , lee at srd, a fall out at whifbitz over some bloody valve collets, the battle has now commenced to the passenger side. Amongst this restoration, and falling in love with the supra again, and knowing what it costs to do a build correctly, i went and purchased a supra locally that has 807bhp top secret body kit, and a list of parts and work totalling over £60k, it was in my eyes a bargain. So this is the story till now, the 807bhp car is going away next week to get adapted with my hydraulic clutch system as its a manual, the system was first used in my escort cosworths and clio williams in the mid 90's. Im currently 46, pretty skint... but enjoying my supras ))) Edited May 30, 2019 by jongilly (see edit history)
blythmrk
Sounds an amazing car journey and your still coming back to a Supra does nothing compare? Post some pictures up of the UK Supra restoration (I remember it being at auction!)
Guest Rsb
Welcome, amazing story and journey. I also remember that car at auction, sounds like you have done an amazing job restoring. I’ve also been knee deep in a UK Supra resto from Sept 2018, well worth it but only for the slightly insane.

jongilly
Hello all.... im struggling to upload files... i dont know if i have all rights being a newbie... Needless to say, having experienced alot of cars and ownership, there is something personal about the supra... the way it wraps around you in the drivers seat... the way it hunkers down at speed... the way it walks the back end out at a roundabout.... its effortless performance even standard... it even looks like a db9 though the drivers door mirror, on the rear arch.... i like it... its a timeless design, the best japan has done? Enjoy it.. its good... be happy your driving a classic.
