Nathanj1142
Bit of a weird one here. Looking to do a NA-TT conversion on my NA 5spd import (Will be using the w58 for time being). If I were to use a 2jz-gte, would that specify as a 'conversion'? Would I need to inform DVLA and get a new MOT? My v5 currently states that my car has a GTE as the engine, and doesn't state the car is a SZ or RZ anywhere. Any ideas what needs to be done? Since my v5 already says GTE, am I ok? EDIT: Can I, therefore, insure the car as a Toyota Supra RZ? as it would 'technically' be an RZ. Thanks, Nathan. Noz
It's an SZ with a TT engine in. Sounds like the v5 is wrong. Which is interesting in itself. You need to insure the car as a non turbo with a TT engine. The SZ vs RZ isn't really important. It's the fact you've changed the engine is what insurance would need to know. But thats just my opinion and from what I've seen others do. Your chosen insurance company would be the ones to tell you if that's how they would see it. jim_supra
It will definitely be classed as a conversion no matter what, as it's been changed from how it left the factory, and the VIN plate will still show it as having had a GE engine. I did the conversion over a decade ago now and thus far haven't changed any detail on the V5. I've always made sure to tell the insurance company that I have swapped the engine for a standard TT engine, never really affected my premium either as far as I can tell. Nathanj1142
Thanks for the reply. I’ve rang a few companies and they’ve all said I’ve to declare it as a non standard engine replacement. Will have to wait till I’m a bit older to be able to insure the na-t Thanks guys.
jim_supra
Has the declaration impacted your premium a fair amount then? Which insurers have you tried?
Nathanj1142
Has the declaration impacted your premium a fair amount then? Which insurers have you tried? Tried all specialist brokers I can find, none of them have found companies that will as I’m 20 so ‘high risk’ and have a claim.
