mos
Hi all, my supra N/A didnt come with the drop down front spoiler and i am wondering if this would help to explain the reason why at non legal speeds on the twisties (private road of course) The front of my car seems light. I have done the power steering mod so am at standard pps setting. This is getting me down a bit as i just dont have the confident feeling to throw it into the corner. It almost feels like i turn the wheel and the car thinks about it and even then isnt quite so sure. On another note has anybody ran lance's settings from mkiv.com and how did you find them on U.K. roads.
THOR Racing
Do you have your engine under tray still in tact? Removal of this under tray can seriously effect the high speed stability of the Supra. Regards Pete
mos
Yes still intact, The only difference i can think of is my indicators are not in my front scoops anymore
Terminator
Has the car been lowered? Have you had the geometry checked? Any excess tyre wear? What size front and rear combo are you running?
Andrew Dunk Shaw
I have a uk tt without the front electronic spoiler and have no problems at all with grip or turning into a corner. Cant say i noticed a massive differance with or without it !! Can you explain a bit more exactly whats wrong ? Has this started since the p/s mod ? Terminator
There are some front subframe bolts that are suposed to be checked at each service, many cars don't get then checked. I had a few light at the front at highspeed moments, so checked the bolts and they were way off torque, not finger tight but not up to the 148lbft they should have been. I am checking mine today along with an oil change.
Wez
Does anyone have a pic of these bolts?

Steve W
PHIL gave me THIS pic........ [bUT, haven't actually checked MINE yet... DOH!]
Mark Ayling
Nice one, ta Now here's where I sound really f* stupid.... Do "bits" have to be taken off to get to/tighten these bolts or are they easily accessible...? (Not that I'm going to do it myself, just wondering)
Steve W
" PHIL . . . ! ! ! ! "
mos
Yes i had geometry checked and it was in spec, i get inner tyre wear but apparently thats normal which is why i was asking if anybody has tried lance's settings. I am running 18" with 235,35,18's all round and i cant go wider due to my wheel width (7.5)(i was seen off by the company that supplied the wheels, i was new to the supra scene at the time). The handling was good before so i think i will check those bolts, fingers crossed.

Just jack up ya mota and put axle stands under to stop yourself getting mashed. You can access all the bolts with your torque wrench then. J. mos
sorry last post might have been confusing, the handling was good with the 18" before and the 30mm lowering, the geometry was done after the lowering and with the 18" and was in spec
Terminator
Now I am confused, are you saying that after fitting your 18" and lowering the car, the alignments were all in spec nothing needed adjusting:eek:
mos
Thats what toyota said, apparently it was close but it was o.k., i have since had it checked in portsmouth and again it came out o.k.
Terminator
Originally posted by Steve W PHIL gave me THIS pic........ [bUT, haven't actually checked MINE yet... DOH!] That’s the Daddy Steve. I check my fronts with every oil change @ 2500 to 3000 miles and the rears @ the second change. When I checked the rears today the big buggers were tight but the little ones on the OS were all about 5 degrees off their click on my torque wrench. Either my torque wrench is in need of replacement or they have loosened due to dry weather spirited cornering. Judging by my tyre wear I think it may be the latter. Thats lucky:p in many cases lowering throws alignment out.
mos
I do all my own servicing so the bolts have not been checked in nearly 3 years, good possibility i suppose, ill check tommorow. I was expecting the lowering to throw it out and was looking for adjustable top mounts, but when the check came out o.k. what was the point
Steve W
I may have to pop up your way sometime Phil, I really can't raise enough enthusiasm either at home OR at work (TOO lazy, then, TOO busy ! ) Maybe if I pop up to yours I might HAVE to do it ! ? {along with any other nasty-don't-really-fancy-doin-it jobs:( } " How's yer drive off fer oil staynz me ol' mucka ? ? Terminator
No problem Steve, you bring the beers and we can check it over. BTW I dont spill oil, but if your Supra leaks, oil flog it. Just pick a sunny day as my garage is a bit crowded at the moment.

Roy
have the same problem - front end goes light around 130-ish so have decided to get the front aer-lip fixed in the permanent down position and hope this will solve the floatiness. got new tyres going on as well and intend to do an alignment jobbie as well and between the two, am hoping to solve this. mos
Thanks for the info people, keep us updated roy as mine goes light at about 80-90 on the bends
Guest Martin F
I've had Lance's alignment done on my supe and from what i can tell it has made high speed driving a little more twitchy. Has sorted the tyre wear and tramlining out, but at 100+ things are a little twitchier than i remember from before.
