Kearney
Really nice work! Aristo vvti swap is a lot of work indeed haha. Thanks, it was a good bit of work but plenty of prep before hand made it go smoothly enough.

Kearney
So a little update, Did a deal with Josh and bought the BBS LMS off him. 18x9 and 18x10. They make sure a difference. My plan is to get the centres down in silver again at some point. Checked all the tyre pressures.

rider
Great build with clearly a lot of effort gone into it. Fingers crossed you never suffer any electrical Gremlins that a few Aristo swaps seem to pick up. Out of interest, what is the cost to insure a modified Supra in Ireland these days? Kearney
Great build with clearly a lot of effort gone into it. Fingers crossed you never suffer any electrical Gremlins that a few Aristo swaps seem to pick up. Out of interest, what is the cost to insure a modified Supra in Ireland these days? Thanks, yeah seems all fine so far. I think the auto ecu is holding it back a bit but i might just invest in a link ecu next year at some point. I have all the dash lights working and everything works as it should. My plan over the next few weeks is to replace the headunit and get new reg plates. Its actually fine, i have it insured with autoline on a classic policy and its €300 for the year with all the mods declared. Just the road tax is a killer, its €1495 a year or €411 for 3 months. In 2024 it will be 30 years old and it will be vintage. Road tax for the year for vintage cars is €56 lol.
Josh
So a little update, Did a deal with Josh and bought the BBS LMS off him. 18x9 and 18x10. They make sure a difference. Kearney
So i was having some issues with a sticky rear caliper. I wanted to get a front and rear BBK at some stage over the next year. I tried every motorfactors, toyota, cross referenced from oe numbers with no joy. I did a lot of research and read up about the evo rear brembo conversion. I already have j spec brakes so i could use my own discs etc. I decided to go ahead with it and got what parts i needed. Evo 6 rear brembo calipers with mintex racing pads. I seen this very helpful post on another forum stating that the m10 bolts for the evo calipers are slightly offset to the supras m12 holes. After that, my friend who is an engineer, made up some spacers on the 3d printer after doing drawings Turned out well. These were test items to see how it will work. Ill be getting metal ones made up after. They can take up to 130c degrees.
Kearney
Cleaned the calipers Picked up these 4 pot brembos from a range rover to go up front. Will make a bracket over the next few weeks and will run it with a gs450h disc most likely Anyway, back to the rears. After getting new banjo bolts and caliper bolts. I went avout stripping off the old brakes Fit the spacers in Caliper bolted straight on securely. Supra brake line with banjo fitted evo calipers with no issue. Both are m10x1. Braked bled. Everything tightened and wheel back on Took it for a drive after it was fine. Im going to paint them when i mount the front calipers on. Kearney
So I decided to tidy up the back brakes. I wasn't really happy with the blue and I wanted proper high temperature paint. So I masked up the hub and left the caliper in situ. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/37.jpg Gave it 6 coats of high temp red. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/38.jpg I then removed the old disc after the paint dried and painted the guard black. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/39.jpg New drilled disc fitted. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/40.jpg The brembo logos were too big for the rears. Luckily i bought these high temp supra logos for refurbing uk brakes. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/41.jpg Got the logos on, then finished with 3 coats of high temp lacquer. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/42.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/43.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/44.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/45.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/07/46.jpg Edited August 15, 2020 by Kearney (see edit history)
Kearney
Measured up the RR brembo calipers after giving them a clean. Bit mouldy looking lol. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/5.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/6.jpg I ordered new high temp brembo logos but 'm insure what colour/design to go with. - - - Updated - - - So I decided to start to mock up brackets for the calipers. Wheel off, small brakes only 296mm disc https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/7.jpg The inside of the wheel is 420mm which should be plenty of space for the caliper. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/8.jpg
Kearney
After doing a lot of research I discovered the most suitable disc to use was the Lexus ISF front disc. Differences Factory J spec front disc size https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/9.jpg The Lexus ISF front disc size https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/10.jpg - - - Updated - - - Mate of mine did a quick drawing up so i could work on a bracket. I sent him out the measurements and he emailed me back a to scale stencil that i printed out and fine tuned. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/11.jpg I was looking for a size of 180mm from the centre of the hub to the top of the pad inside the caliper. I cut up a small bit of 6mm plywood and worked around making a test bracket. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/12.jpg The location was perfect but for some reason I gained an extra 20mm to the top of the pad in the caliper so it was 200mm. I'll have to try figure out what i did wrong and rejig it. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/13.jpg The plan is to get the measurements spot on, measure the dept to locate it perfectly centred and then make up a plastic 3d printed bracket. If it all fits correctly i'll then send the measurements over and get a steel one made up.
Kearney
These arrived today! J spec supra rear discs https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/14.jpg Lexus Isf discs https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/15.jpg - - - Updated - - - With the discs finally here, i was able to fine tune the design of the bracket. Because the isf disc is deeper, i didn't need anything to space the caliper out more in order for it to centre on the disc. Jspec disc vs isf disc https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/16.jpg With the disc on, i was able to tell that the caliper needed slight adjustment so i made up another new bracket(on the left). Its the 5th bracket ive made so far. I think at this rate i'll take up carpentry on the side lol. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/17.jpg I bolted it up all together. It's all nice and tight. Able to fit the wheel on. Pad is centred. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/18.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/19.jpg
Kearney
Because the brakes are so big now, the wheels look small lol. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/20.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/21.jpg No spacers required either. This is a photo from inside the wheel showing the gap from the caliper face to the wheel spokes. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/22.jpg
Kearney
These hi temp logos arrived. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/23.jpg So after making 7 wooden brackets, I finally got one that fits perfectly. This is for the front brakes. My mate then took measurements and made up some CAD drawings. We will be 3d printing them and test fit them. If it all works out ok, ill be forwarding the drawings on to a fabricating company and have them made up in steel. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/24.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/25.jpg - - - Updated - - - So we made the final bracket on the 3d printer and mounted it up. The calculations were absolutely spot on. The pad sits perfectly with the curvature of the disc. Wheel fits perfectly, have around 20mm of space from the tips of the caliper to the inside of the wheel Now to just get the CAD drawings over to an engineering company and have them made in 12mm thick steel. Kearney
Picked up the brackets. Had them laser cut. 12mm s275 steel. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/26.jpg https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/27.jpg Went and bought genuine brembo pads. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/28.jpg - - - Updated - - - Went and stripped the old brakes. https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/29.jpg Bolted adapter on https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/30.jpg Isf discs on https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/imports/2020/08/31.jpg Gave them a lick of matt black. Kearney
So the verdict. The brakes are much better. Dvett
I would really be interested to connect with you to ask some questions; I have a 2000 v300 Aristo in good working order and a 96'SZR; would like to swap in the GTE VVTi; some pointers if you had some time would be extremely helpfully, I'd be grateful. Supranatic
Hey Kearney i am doing a similar swap on my jdm spec mk4 supra it is currently auto non turbo and i have a jdm aristo v300 from which i swapped in the engine auto transmisson diff and i want to use the factory ecu that comes with the car I am currently on the wiring stage and i know that i will need to wire in the 2 black plugs under the fuse box the bog ornage, grey supra body plugs as well as the white one as i want to use the aristo automatic transmission but i have no clue what wire needs to be hooked up to what plug i have tried finding any information or infact any threads that show this but there seems to be no one that has done this swap and kept the auto trans.
