tayr
Hi All, So i have my Supra coming over from Japan in March. Things which are being done on arrival is; Oil and Filter Change All necessary conversions Full Cavity underseal and protection. What are other things that i should look to be doing first of all? I'm thinking brake fluid but not sure what else i have read maybe the crank pulley is a good one to do? I did try the search feature but not entirely sure what i should be typing in to find the answer.
Swampy442
All fluids, crank pulley is on condition really, but won't hurt to change it if you want to. Some people change the tyres too as they aren't E marked, but I still run the Toyo's my Supra arrived on
j_jza80
Presumably its being MOTd by the importer? Things I would check: Obvious damage and poor repairs (masking lines near windows are an indicator) Wipers All lights / mirrors (is power) Air con Seat belts All other interior functions All fluid levels, filters and condition Check engine bay for leaks and visual damage Check aux belt Remove plastic plug cover - check condition of plugs and cam belt Crank pulley damper rubber Engine and transmission mounts (facelift mounts fail) Get it up on a ramp, inspect brakes, wheels/tyres, suspension, wheel bearings etc. Tyre wear should indicate any serious alignment and tracking issues. Check all lines, transmission and lower engine area for leaks and damage. Check battery and starter function on startup, and look for any exhaust smoke. Make sure the car engages gear and pulls away smoothly. Listen for any unusual sounds, steering pulling, vibrations through the wheel or car etc. Check gauges, ensure car is boosting correctly if its a turbo. Consider taking a friendly mechanic if you're not 100% on the things you should be looking for.
mike33
Hiya mine when I got it from Japan was a grade 4 but it needed a full respray! I changed everything and it only had 23k on the clock and just had a cambelt change! The fuel line had been checked but I hadn't changed it! Please keep a fire extinguisher on board as I do now! And please check everyrhing! I was gutted! Luckily enough I found a gz areotop from keron! So I'm back enjoying supra life! Hope you enjoy it matey when she turns up

Jellybean
Inspect the car on a ramp first as noted above Minimum I would re-Torque subframe bolts T Belt changed for piece of mind Valve cover seals , they are prone to leak, visually easy to see; good chance to inspect the cams, head Cam breather pipes ( would get a set in anyway, nice to have in the toolbox) OE Fuel Filter Oil filter Toyota Red Coolant, replace any coolant pipes if they are cracked and perished Brake fluid (Dependent on condition) Brake pads (Dependent on condition) Spark Plugs Inspect Coil pack clips, prone to fatigue with heat over the years, I would replace , inexpensive ; save you chasing boost issues later Inspect Coil packs for cracks OE Gear box Fluid Rear Differential Fluid Powersteering Fluid If you are doing the Tbelt or crank pulley , I would do both together with Cam seals Nice to have New Oil pump , you can inspect the big ends when the sump is off Water pump Edited January 21, 2019 by Jellybean (see edit history)

I was hoping to go BPU quite soon after it arrives but i'd rather make sure car is mechanically sound first
SupraTRD_MK4
japan-parts.eu is by far the best I feel. Better than ToyoDIY but yeah, each to his own. If you send me the vin part of your car on pm, I can look up the car on that site then forward you the link. That way you will know you ordering everything correctly for your car
