bayside_supra Posted January 16, 2019 Share Posted January 16, 2019 Hi guys My Pirelli’s are finished at the rear, too many burnouts. I was never that impressed with them anyway. I’ve ran them for no more than 2,000 miles and there is around half the tread left but they are shot. Won’t even hook up in 3rd on low boost anymore. There seems to be hardly any choices in this size anymore. Want something sticky like R888R but all I can find are Michelin PS2 or Yokohama A052. The Yokohama’s would probably be good but at over £700 a pair it would be nice to have some more choice. Does anyone have any suggestions on where might be able to supply me some more options on tyres in this size? They certainly used to make R888s in this size and they do currently offer R888Rs in the US but I cant find them over here. If not, has anyone used the Michelin’s? I could get a full set including fronts for around £600 but will they put the power down? The P Zeros only ever hooked when pretty new and on warm days. Any advice would be great. Fronts are 265/35/18 and would probably be replacing the full set whatever I get. You have to remember CCW will have based their tyre recommendations (width & profile) on US roads, not U.K. roads. This aside, the Supra suspension is old tech which doesn’t work well with those profiles but that is another conversation for another time. Personally, I would look at putting a minimum of a 35 on the front and 40 on the rear. The 40 rear profile will give you more sidewall, better grip under acceleration and more predictable handling. Regarding width you can run a 275 or 285 on the front and 295 or 305 on the rear. These would be considered the “ideal widths”. A 275/35, 275/40 or 285/35, 285/40 on the front and a 295/35, 295/40 or 305/35, 305/40 on the rear should give your better options and more of a selection. Depending on how low your car is they may scrub. You could pop as far as a tyre fitters and see if they have any old tyres in those sizes that they could fit so you can try them before hand. It would be worth your while speaking to CW and see what he has to say. As the forum Geometery specialist with years of experience his advice is invaluable. The R888 seems 'oversized' compared with some other tyres as it is, much more sidewall sag and you're going to foul everywhere. Going up to a 40 profile on that same width is going to add another 35mm to the running height of the car too, while reducing your clearance to the arch by the same. I used to run 285/30/18 up front on the 10" alongside the 315/30/18 at the rear on the 11.5" and it felt fine. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have had a look and it only looks like 295 35 18 are available anyway. So I can move to 295 and have a bit more choice or stick with 315 and have the same issue with virtually nothing to pick from. Style Posted January 17, 2019 Share Posted January 17, 2019 I have 315 PS2's and they've been good for me in the wet and dry. I do think they'd start to light up in the dry with a little more power though (I'm currently 400hp).
